Intense/brutal thrash metal bands???

Anyone here into any of the intense styles of thrash, be it death/thrash or black/thrash or otherwise?
To give you an idea of what bands I'm constantly on the lookout for, I'm thinking along the lines of anything like Kreator, Sodom, early Sepultura, early Sadus, Demolition Hammer, Possessed, Nocturnal Breed, Witchaven, Desaster, Holy Moses, Hypnosia, Legion of the Damned, Deathchain, Warbringer, etc. etc.

Any suggestions?

I’m a huge fan of black metal, death metal and thrash bands that are forerunners to these sub-genres or thrashy bands that might be considered early extreme metal hybrids.
I like most of the bands you’ve mentioned and really need to check out a couple myself (I’m not at all familiar with Legion of the Damned or Hypnosia)..

My all-time favourite extreme thrash albums would probably be Vulcano’s “Bloody Vengeance”, Slayer’s “Reign In Blood” and Sarcofago’s “INRI”.
I really love the “bestial” thrash type sound from the Brazilian scene of the late eighties, stuff like early Sepultura, Sarcofago, earlier Holocausto, Mutilator, Sextrash, Sexfago/Impurity, Chakal and Vulcano..

Opening killer track from Bloody Vengeance. This is really the pinnacle of their career and one of the fastest albums I've ever heard. I don’t mind Live! Or Anthropophagy either but they are somewhat more varied in style and the production is quite poor, especially considered Anthropophagy is a studio album..

Early Holocausto was very heavy on the Nazi imagery though they stated they just used it for shock value. (I believe there was even use of shirts with swastikas by Sepultura in the early early days). Check out Campo de Extermino.

Sarcofago's whole discography is great basically but if it's extreme thrash you want check out INRI first and then Rotting. Laws of Scourge is also some of the best thrash ever though it's less 'bestial' and 'extreme' and more melodic.

Morbid Saint's "Spectrum of Death" is one of the most violent thrash albums I've ever heard

From the UK there's always Onslaught. Not terribly original or the best of the best or anything but "Power From Hell" was some pretty solid thrash. Sort of a hybrid between Venom and early Metallica. "The Force" is actually a better album than "Power From Hell" but maybe a touch less intense.

Australia's Vomitor are one of the best extrme thrash revivalists I've heard. Check out Bleeding the Priest. It features members of Spear of Longinus who are mostly more bm than thrash but are quite good if you can get by their ridiculous NS politics.
Also check out black/thrash band Gospel of the Horns, which shares members.

Also, Dark Angel's "Darkness Descends" is pretty damn extreme. I've been listening to Voor's "Evil Metal" compilation lately which has their mid-eighties primitive death/thrash demos.

Wow, it seems I've been overlooking south american metal. I guess I just didn't like the way Sepultura ended up going so I kind of gave up on it. But I do like Krisiun even though they're straight death metal, not thrash.

As far as Hypnosia and Legion of the Damned go, neither are terribly original, but both are really great, in my opinion. Hypnosia is a swedish band that sound a lot like Kreator. I find them terribly underrated because they only had time to release like one demo and one full length before their drummer died and they split up. I think if they had had more time they could've had a LOT of potential, and had more time to develop their sound.

As for legion of the damned, they're definitely a modern band. But it serves a purpose because every single one of their songs will break your neck you'll be headbanging so hard. I like them because even though a few of their songs have a lot of speed, they don't rely on it. They are MASTERS of mid-paced neckbreakers.

Yeah, the Cogumelo label in particular is a goldmine for filthy sounding South American bands. A few years ago I heard Sarcofago’s INRI and Rotting albums and never looked back since.
I like that Hypnosia track, definitely reminds me of the good old classics like Extreme Aggression and (Sodom’s) Agent Orange… not really original but good stuff nonetheless. Are they still active by any chance??
Countries such as Colombia, Peru, Chile and Brazil have all had at least a couple dm artists I can appreciate. Parabellum in particular really helped set the bar for death/black metal down there and was even an acknowledged influence of Euronymous from Mayhem fame. Death Yell, Masacre and Atomic Aggressor are all quality earlier dm bands too.

Do you like thrash metal with punk influences or ‘crossover thrash’ ?
I just picked up the first Sacrilege (UK) album the other day and can’t get enough of it, it’s filthy, crusty and thrashy but at the same time has some speed metal influence and will also incorporate a good sense of melody in some of the leads…

and

Hellacaust - Disgust are a couple of newer albums I'd suggest.

I love the punk metal hybrid stuff like Hellmouth, early Suicidal Tendencies, DRI etc.

Some of my favourites are Carnivore, early Prong (before they started to suck), Discharge, Amebix (though never really thrash), Nuclear Assault (more thrash than punk), Cryptic Slaughter, early Suicidal Tendencies and early DRI…

And Destroyer 666 are amazing! Everything they've released has been killer, with the exception of Defiance and even that wasn't terrible or anything. Apparently they're supposed to have a new release on the way but I have no idea about a date..


Another earlier black/death/thrash band that’s often overlooked and recommended for anyone who likes Slayer, Venom and fellow Italians Bulldozer..

Well, as far as Hypnosia goes, They aren't around anymore. They only had time to release one full length. Which is really a shame because they had a lot of potential.

And Destroyer 666 reminds me...have you guys heard Witchaven or Trench Hell? Both great bands along the black/thrash line.

Yeah, Witchaven are pretty killer stuff. Terrorstorm was one of my favourites of 2010

It’s a slippery slope here really seeing as how when thrash gets really intense it often morphs and overlaps with the black and death genres. I would for example never straight out call Cancer’s Death Shall Rise a thrash metal album any more than I would Death’s Scream Bloody Gore or Atheist’s Piece of Time. Thrashy, yes, but too fitting of what’s always referred to as death metal.
A song like “Necromantical Screams” also doesn’t come across as what I usually think of as thrash metal, though I suppose it’s thrashy (and considering these genres overlapped, close enough to what the OP was looking for probably). Awesome stuff anyways.
