Does anybody else like this music? It's electronic music, and some of it is really hard-thumping.

Yes. With a capital Y. The Prodigy is a great example. They are brilliant and got their 3 albums "The Experience", "Music For The Jilted Generation" and "The Fat Of The Land." Fatboy Slim is another brilliant example as well. Also there's Leftfield, and Underworld. In short I Love Electronic music! It's the best! :D

I have heard modern club music from artists such as Tiësto, Scooter and Darude. That is good.
I like the Prodigy as well - I bought their Their Law Album (Singles 1990 - 2005).

I first downloaded that album, but thought it was best to get their 3 best albums.

There's all sorts of names for this kind of stuff.

The Prodigy started off as rave but got heavier (oh and be warned: the last album was rubbish :x ). There are a number of rave compliations coming out again now, e.g. Back to the Old Skool I and II which feature bands like The Prodigy, The Shamen, 808 State, Blue Pearl, LFO and so forth. Like many dance genres a lot of the guys involved had one hit single and then disappeared, so getting firther information can be tricky. Rave also had links with the Manchester "baggy" guitar bands such as the Stone Roses, Happy Mondays and The Charlatans who played spaced out indie-rock with dance leanings.

The Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim were part of a scene called Big Beat, centered around the Big Beat Boutique in Brighton (do not attempt to speak the last sentence if you have a stammer). My personal favourite is the first Lo Fidelity Allstars album - How to Operate With a Blown Mind - which has some very weird vocal distortion and odd song structures, but somehow still manages to rock. Midfield General is another name to try, or indeed virtually anything on the Skint Records back catalogue.

P.S. If you like trance, check out The Orb and also the quite wonderful Lemon Jelly. :D

Hey, guys, Give me more names. I'm an old headbanger and I really like the heavier rockish hard driving styles over the trippy wisps of fairy wing wind of some electronica.

I've only recently heard much in this genre and I love it, but I'm not well informed. My only exposure so far, other than a few downloads, is a university radio station here, that does a variety of stuff on their late shows. If you see me here late on a Friday night, I'm tranced. The problem is they play an hour of music and then tell you what it was, but I never catch it all. So, please post more names.

Maybe links to some websites, too. I really prefer to order CDs over downloading an mp3, which always sound empty and plastic to me.

...Hard-thumping Trance? Does that even exist anymore? I thought Ferry ****ing Corsten turned all forms of Trance into annoying pop-ish uplifting crap.

I was going to see Infected a couple of years back, but i chickened out when i heard they had a 30k PA!

E2A actually i remember that weekend - had a choice of 3 places, decided upon an old-skool rave on the other side of london, so waited in the city centre and started calling the nos etc. The police chased the rig all over the countryside for about 3 hours, by the time they actually found a safe location to set up, all the trains out of london had stopped running. i went home

I have no idea what style they fit into, but there's a band called OZRIC TENTACLES who are absolutely superb.

Not very heavy (certainly not in the NIN / Ministry league!), instrumental, trippy dance music but with some hippy prog influences too. When I am very drunk I play their albums to get to sleep - their music makes me float around with the room, rather than the room spinning and making me feel sick, Lol!

Although they're not specialist sites, try AMG (All Music Guide) or even the buyer's reviews in Amazon listings. AMG is good because there are links to related artists, so once you know a few names you can find a load more. Amazon is good because you'll get to see more than one opinion. If you don't want to spend too much (and particularly if you're compulsive!) hide your credit cards before logging on.

Try using this address for AMG: http://www.allmusic.com

Don't be chicken! Carry 2 sets of ear plugs (in case you drop one), a pair of dark glasses, and don't get too close to the stacks of equipment. I have extremely sensitive hearing and I worked the glorious metal years of the '80s doing concert sound, (actually for 20 years, music is my passion) and I still hear fine. Taking a few precautions to prevent the pressures from damaging your hearing is important, but going with an understanding friend who would help in case you just had to say SCREWIT!! and leave is also smart. My main phobia was not the music, stars, lights (although I hate lights), restrictions on personal items, but the damn crowds. Having a friend next to you in a crowd helps a lot.

GO! ... and enjoy the music every time you can. If you don't you will regret it later in life.
