So I got diagnosed. I am certified. The thing that I am more interested in, is my dad. He has all the traits of Aspergers, but he is musically obsessed (so it seems). I think he's AS. He's heavily eccentric and reminds me of Einstein, by character.

I've tried to isolate some traits in my parents and ultimately think they both display different bits...

My dad has always been about music (lots of tapes and cds, and used to have a lot of records) and scanner radios (radios you can use to listen to emergency services, aircraft, etc).

My Dad is obsessed with music, too. I doubt that he's aspie, but he and my biological sister have obsessions, Dad's is music and it's his constant obsession, Amelia's is fluctuating...currently Harry Potter. One of those shadow syndrome things, I guess :P Dad has about a million instruments, mostly stringed ones(violins, guitars, bozoukis, mandolins, banjos, etc), tons of sound type equipment, over 2000 CDs at last count and he buys broken instruments to repair and sell. He's rather good at it.

Sounds liek my dad. He's been obsessed with music for most of his life. At one point, it was pipe organs in the extreme (and to be honest, I don't know that he's ever really gotten over it 100%) and he actually started to build his own pipe organ, complete with the wooden and metal pipes! Don't know if he ever finished it....or what happened to it..

Church organs or Theater Organs? (Aeolian-Skinner vs. Wurlitzer or Kimball)

So ... anyone with a musical obsession is an Aspie (?) ... somebody had better inform Sir Paul McCartney that he's one of us, then ...

You folks are so lucky, I tryed really hard during my teens to share my love for music/concerts with him and always got rejected. He can be a real stick in the mud that way. Even when his faverate artists came to town to play for free he still would not come with me, I know what he likes by his reaction when it comes on the radio.

If your dad is obsessed with music I suggest he join's this forum: http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/

We're all music obsessives there, and he'd fit in great.
