My name is Dave, my diagnosis is Schizophrenia and a few others lol. Basically long story short my artistic talents exploded about a year ago, just about the time my illness kicked into overdrive (was not diagnosed until April of 2011). Well, pretty much all I can do right now is art, and even though the doctors told me I should get on SSI, I was like screw that I want to provide for myself, and not give up. Well, I have been tossing around TONS of ideas and one of them I have come up with is a site where people with mental illness who are artists can like well, host their art. It would be just like any other guild or whatever, you help each other draw in visitors etc.
I have the domain name, it is called schizart.com. I currently have some artwork out on the net using the schizart logo/brand but if I could get other schiz and mental disability people to setup a gallery with I would ditch my branded art in a second. I am sure as you all know, it can feel pretty lonely out there bein stuck in a house all day, and if we could get together and setup our own gallery I think it would be incredible. As for commissions and all that, hey that is what a board of advisors is for. In closing, if I could really do what I wanted with Schizart, it would be to not only host art, but put people with mental illness to work developing websites etc. Just because we cannot function well in public does not mean we do not have talents that we can use from home.
I hope I might find people of interest to help me get something like this setup. I have the domain, and I can get it setup and pretty, that is not a problem, all i need are peeps to display my work with, I need a community.
