Why yes, just the other day a band had to name themselves Squishy Flap, and all because the good names were taken.

in a college psych class, i was told about redundant aspects of languages, IOW arrangements of letters to make words that never were coined for one reason or another. one example the prof gave that stuck in my mind, was "volvap" ["pavlov" backwards]. i've never heard of a group called "the volvaps" or anything like that. if all the good names have been copyrighted or trademarked and unavailable forever and ever [in america, at least- america is the land of forever copyright] then bands will just have to start using up the supply of redundant words for their novel monikers. a good project for any computer expert app guy, would be to make an app that tells you whether or not a given name is taken. just a thought. so who out there is willing to become "the volvaps"?

In the future there will be singers named Gady La La, Tonia Shwain, and Paty Kerry. Groups named OLE, AABB and MER, Bickelnack, Runs and Goses, Mentally Challenged Mime Gang, and Ivanescence. Totally original.

And there's still BBAA and BABA and ABAB and BAAB after that.

Or heck, let's get creative and add another letter; ABBAA

i believe surviving/estate of ABBA would sue because it contains the original letter sequence of ABBA. so even if somebody named their group "abbatoir" they'd still likely get the cease and desist letter from ABBA's legal sharks.
i just had a thought
nobody to my knowledge has named their band "fat bottom girls." so that name is available to anybody who wants to take it, i won't make any claims on it. 8)

Absolutely not!

I have many great un-used band names stored in my brain.
As long as creative people use their brains then there is nothing to worry about.

I am sure that many future band names will be extremely stupid while other will be brilliant.

A study conducted by Google and Harvard University found there to be 1,022,000 words in the English language. Therefore there are 1,044,484,000,000 possible two word band names and 1,067,462,648,000,000,000 possible three word band names. This excludes band names that are made up (e.g. Metallica) and band names that do not use English words.

Well there are always names of songs that can be used as band names.
