Is there a song that can turn your mood and make you feel better in those 'bad moments'? Do the words touch you inside?

Here is one of mine :

Supertramp. 'Hide in your shell'

Hide in your shell cos the world is out to bleed you for a ride
What will you gain making your life a little longer?
Heaven or Hell, was the journey cold that gave your eyes of steel?
Shelter behind painting your mind and playing joker

Too Frightening to listen to a stranger
Too Beautiful to put your pride in danger
You're waiting for someone to understand you
But you've got demons in your closet
And you're screaming out to stop it
Saying life's begun to cheat you
Friends are out to beat you
Grab on to what you scramble for

Don't let the tears linger on inside now
Cos it's sure time you gained control
If I can help you, if I can help you
If I can help you, just let me know
Well, let me show you the nearest signpost
To get your heartback and on the road
If I can help you, if I can help you
If I can help you, just let me know.

All through the night as you like awake and hold yourself so tight
What do you need, a second-hand-movie-star to tend you?
I as a boy, I believed the saying the cure for pain was love
How would it be if you could see the world through my eyes?

Too Frightening- the fire's getting colder
Too Beautiful- to think you're getting older
You're looking for someone to give an answer.
But what you see is just an illusion
You're surrounded by confusion
Saying life's begun to cheat you
Friends are out to beat you
Grab on to what you can scramble for
Don't let teh tears...
... just let me know
I wanna know...
I wanna know you...
Well let me know you
I wanna feel you
I wanna touch you
Please let me near you
Can you hear what I'm saying?
Well I'm hoping, I'm dreamin', I'm prayin'
I know what you're thinkin'
See what you're seein'
Never ever let yourself go

Hold yourself down, hold yourself down
Why d'ya hold yourself down?
Why don't you listen, you can
Trust me,
There's a place I know the way to
A place there is need to feel you
Feel that you're alone
Hear me
I know exactly what you're feelin'
cos all your troubles are whithin you
please begin to see that I'm just bleeding to
Love me, love you
Loving is the way to
Help me, help you
- Why must we be so cool, oh so cool,?
Oh, we're such damn fools...

nothing with lyrics can make me feel better, but there are certain tonal contours that do have an effect on my physical and mental functioning, this music would be the "new age" type.

What music I choose to lift my spirits depends on why I'm down and exactly what mood I'm in at the time. Jazz often helps, as does metal or classical music.

No specific song, though, unless there's a special reason for my bad mood.

Like AuntBlabby said, not words but the shape/form of the music. Like jazz with female vocalists singing slow songs, i.e. "Skylark."

I used to listen to Alice in Chains when depressed or severely pissed off but it grates on my nerves, nowadays. "Them Bones" was a favorite for a long time (including the lyrics).

Actually, I meant the AIC song, but I do agree that "dem bones" is indeed a happy and good song. :) I'd love to hear a metal version of it, now that I think about it.

I can't believe I've heard that song a dozen times (at least) and never made the connection before. D'oh!

The Polyphonic Spree makes happy music. My favorite: It's the Sun.

Anything from Smashing Pumpkins, Elliott Smith, Bright Eyes, Blue October, or Damien Rice.

A few key romantic piano pieces as well, anything from Chopin.

In The Margins and Stormy Weather by EATB. Just makes me forget my life and take me to a safer place.

funny i always felt a meaning w/ take the long way home
So you think you're a Romeoplaying a part in a picture-showTake the long way homeTake the long way homeCos you're the joke of the neighborhoodWhy should you care if you're feeling goodTake the long way homeTake the long way homeBut there are times that you feel you're part of the sceneryall the greenery is comin' down, boyAnd then your wife seems to think you're part of thefurniture oh, it's peculiar, she used to be so nice. When lonely days turn to lonely nightsyou take a trip to the city lightsAnd take the long way homeTake the long way homeYou never see what you want to seeForever playing to the gallery[| From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/s/supertram ... yrics.html |]You take the long way homeTake the long way homeAnd when you're up on the stage, it's so unbelievable, unforgettable, how they adore you,But then your wife seems to think you're losing your sanity,oh, calamity, is there no way out?Does it feel that you life's become a catastrophe?Oh, it has to be for you to grow, boy. When you look through the years and see what you couldhave been oh, what might have been,if you'd had more time. So, when the day comes to settle down,Who's to blame if you're not around? You took the long way homeYou took the long way home...........

Pachelbel's Canon in D major. No lyrics, but so incredibly beautiful that for a few minutes, nothing can be wrong in the world.

Had to listen to it after I posted this. Brings tears to my eyes every time.

I love Supertramp though!

Very contextual...I enjoy Murder My Mind's Eye by Finger Eleven, Edification by Ghost Machine, Diseased by Seether, Falls Apart by Hurt and Epiphany by Staind generally. Live Again by Sevendust helped me quite a bit at one point.

Here's two of mine, they can turn my mood around in an instant!

English translation of lyrics:
And tomorrow the sun will shine again
and on the way that I will go,
will she us, the happy ones, again unite
amidst this sun-breathing earth,
and to the beach, wide, wave-blue
will we still and slowly descend
silently we will look in each other's eyes
and upon us sinks the mute silence of happiness
