I feel like sometimes music is the only thing that can express how I feel........so I find it therapeutic to listen to music that helps me confront my emotions. I mean I feel some people would not even understand this, but I don't even know what the hell I'd do without music....I mean I can listen to some metal and just get into it and let out a lot of my negative energy. Also I have to say various forms of speed metal help me get crap done....and Yeah I just had to say this because I appreciate music and I can't even count the times it's helped me get through days.

Music did help, over the past few weeks my anxiety/depression has gotten worse so it's no longer helping.

I like music to escape, pretend in my head that I'm a rock star or able to dance or imagine scenarios...I guess that's fairly normal, but right now I keep reminding myself that this is not real, so I'm cutting myself off from something that used to be an escape - long-term this may be positive, short-term it's just making me feel worse. I am favouring music that's more upsetting so getting upset, thus emotionally draining.

Music does play a big part of my life. I believe it influences both who I am as a person and how I view the world, in a largely positive way. It's kind of funny because 10-15 years ago I didn't like music in the least, if anyone asked me what kind of music I liked I would actually reply "none" lol. But I have changed quite a bit since those days!

It helps me mostly because of hyperfocus. It's been my hobby from a young age, but it rarely does alter my mood or helps me combat depression. But it's my interest, it gives me 'something to do'.

Yes, music transports me to another world where I'm another person or character. It helps me so much that I NEED my mp3 player when I go jog at night, running is so much easier with music playing.

Soundtrack to Your Escape by In Flames helped me greatly when I was severely depressed...such a fitting album name. My Sweet Shadow was what helped me the most.

It is used to express all forms of emotion for me though definitely. My drawings are usually patterns without emotional weight.

Yes, jazz and classical mostly helps. I don't like popular music mostly but there are some exceptions. It just sounds boring.

Without a doubt. Music expresses emotion in ways words could never aspire to. Comes in all different shapes, textures, and continuum's which all work together to create new and unique quarters to reappraise our realm. In its different forms it can have a variety of effects on me. I can usually find just what I need when I call for it, otherwise I can sit in silence outside and listen to the drifts of natural chaos. I tend to value my ears above my other senses. I can listen to some fast music to get my mind spinning fast as a tornado, or slow down and feel as a spider parachuting on a thin breeze. Paintings and books don't do so well to give me such sensations, It's easier to ride variants of the fourth dimension through the wilderness of rhythms and melodies.

I love music, I usually feel my strongest emotions when I am listening to music. Also, I need music to be able to do basic things like go to the shops, or sit on the bus. Not only does the music mean that I cannot hear all the other noise, but it also relaxes me I am feeling a little overwhelmed (if the supermarket is busy, for example).

I'd say very much so. As most people know on this board, I basically like girly pop music. Especially Japanese pop. When I was younger, I tried to fit in a bit more, and listened to more metal, rock, and rap, but then when I discovered eurobeat and jpop, I was like "this is awesome." Then, when I got thrown out of school, I was isolated from my peers from the most part, so my jpop/etc really flourished then. Now I pretty much never listen to metal or rap, I do make an exception for power metal and some 80s rock, but yeah.

For some reason, though, I find I most easily connect with like, Japanese music. Especially Japanese pop. My friend was saying the fact I like so much pop music probably means I'm not emotionally mature. I think he's kinda dumb in what he's saying, I fail to see how some guy screaming in a Rise Against song is somehow more emotionally mature than this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgGnreyPmaQ .

Hmm that's odd typically it seems girly pop music and rap and pop rock/pop punk is the most popular......But not so much metal and rap. Different areas are different though but yeah most places I go I don't see a lot of metalheads unless its a metal concert.

I'd say I'm more of a rock/metal type, but yeah I don't know that music really measures maturity.

Yeah, I have that too. Certain types of music bring out certain emotions in me. I like listening to heavy metal to get through the day, it gives me more backbone and a "I don't care what you think about me" attitude. Then I have my techno-trance music that I like, it pumps me up and gives me energy. Techno has a special place in my heart though because it brings out more of the emotional side of me. I like tons of different genres and I use them for lots of different purposes.

I can't remember a day in which I didn't listen to music at least 6 hours. 1971 maybe.

Music helps me cope. It did good for me in early 2011, when it was winter and I didn't like it. I felt sad around those times.

I also listen to music whenever I'm sad/angry/stressed/all three.

It helps a lot.

I've found music to be a stress reliever of sorts, it also helps me to pass time when I'm bored. :D
