1000Knives, are you Japanese, or were your parents also big fans of their music?
Nope, I just ended up incredibly obsessed with Japanese music starting from like elementary school after hearing some anime openings. Then as I got older and had nobody around to be like "Haha, Japanese music is gay lolololol" I just ended up getting more obsessed with Japanese music. So now on a daily basis something like half the music I listen to is Japanese. I can't really understand Japanese, I understand about 10% of what's going on in any given song, though, and look up lyric translations for any song I have, though some of the music I listen to is too obscure for anyone to translate the lyrics. As far as my parents, they were pretty much ambivalent about the Japanese music. My parents wouldn't let us listen to any modern music until like age 12, only "oldies" due to their perceptions that all music of their era was good Godly music (you know, the beginning of the sexual revolution and hippies and all) and all music of the modern era is terrible and immoral.
Recently I've started to get into Russian music, though. Russian music may have a
little to do with my childhood, I had a Bosnian babysitter growing up until like 11 years old or so and was sorta raised by her to some degree, Slavic and all. Russian music is great, as it has this weird sorta kinda melancholy about it no matter what.
Anyway, since you said sound, for whatever reason, Japanese music tends to have the most relatable to me "sound" wise, and generally lyrically, too. I can "feel" Japanese music best for some reason.

Maybe that's a Russian song that aptly sounds like now in my life.
