Nick Cave is my rock idol. Most of you probably know him as the singer of "Red Right Hand," used prominently in the first "Scream" movie as well as in television like "The X-Files." I could listen to his music all day. The Birthday Party, the Bad Seeds, Grinderman... The Bad Seeds are definitely my favorite band of all time. I collect live covers of my favorite songs of theirs. I own a couple tee-shirts which I wear whenever I don't have to dress business casual. I have the Seeds' entire discography in my hard drive, and half of it on my iPhone. I drive a lot for work, so I get to listen to music a lot, which is good because my job is stressful and can be unpleasant at times, even when it is just as rewarding. I come into contact with a lot of darkness as part of my work, a lot of the negative aspects of society, especially concerning the lives of those living at its margins. I think Nick Cave's music speaks to this part of me, the part that has learned to live with darkness, to cherish and embrace it but also to be weary of its hold on me. Nick Cave has said that his songs are always about "Sex, death or God." I don't believe in God, but if I did, She'd listen to Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

My favorite Seeds songs are "Deanna," "The Mercy Seat," and "O'Malley's Bar." I like The Birthday Party's "Capers" and "Zoo-Music Girl," as well as "The Friendcatcher" some of their weirder work, but I love his entire repertoire. As far as Grinderman goes, that live performance of "Depth Charge Ethel" is just so energetic you have to love it. And "Worm Tamer" is just awesome.

Nick Cave is awesome. In fact, that's exactly the type of music I need to listen to tonight, come to think of it.
