i have recentley been surfing u tube listening to different versions of the chaconne.

potentialy the best violin,it cuts right through you likely the best combo of technique and musicianship


Yehudi,brilliant but i did not stand out as his own

many other violinists i did not look up because i dont like them

Eugene Ysaye
couldnt find his chaconne but found a 1907 recording of a kreisler sonata

Helen Hahn
sensual and exceptionaly beautifull,very feminine lacking some power but overall excellent
Segovia
the chaconne was intended for guitar being that the ciacona is a spanish dance likely as a 1 movememt work.but because of the guitars lack of popularity publishers forced him to make it the final movememt of violin partita no.2 in D minor bwv 1004.
Segovia's version is likely the best ever,so good its mystical


Leo Brouwer,the cuban's interpritation is given a very latin feel which i had never heard a chaconne like that before but now im hooked,likely the chaconne was stolen from the guitar by the violin.this version is a must listen

Maxim Vengerov,is great with mozart but beethoven and bach not so good

actualy the chaconne was written for the lute harpichord which an instriment bach played,but the next conclusion was that it was intended for a fretted or plucked instriment.lute,vihuella or guitar.most likely the vihuella.i dont think bach intended it to be played on the lute-harpsichord because that was not a performers instriment

Which particular chaconne are you referring to? It was a very common musical form once.

I prefer the guitar/lute versions because of the richness of the chords and harmonics which don't quite come out as well on the violin (but I like violin versions too). I've never been able to master it after 30 years of practice, but according to my best friends and one of my guitar teachers, I did very well on one performance.
