I had some cash in my pocket last night so on a whim, I decided to buy a real, honest to goodness book. Paper and everything. It's The Hobbit or There and Back Again.

I figured the more I read, the smarter I might become. It's a lifelong quest.

As much as I would like to write fiction as a profession, I have a hard time finding books I want to read that aren't non-fiction. Few of them invoke my special interests and even fewer are well-written. Indeed, my main motivation for writing anything is to tell the stories I would enjoy reading.

I probably should admire Tolkien for his world-building's depth, but frankly I don't find anything alluring about his Middle Earth. Medieval Europe was never my favorite civilization to study anyway.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy is a bit ponderous, it's writing is rather old-fashioned. The Hobbit is more enjoyable, more plainly-written, a fun adventure.

I love fiction and non-fiction. Fiction books are a good study material for aspie's, I think. They're a way to immerse yourself in emotions, motivations, etc. They may be fiction, but the feelings people express in them have to ring true to life, or they wouldn't appeal to readers.

I've 2k plus books here and getting the web six years ago has diverted me, but after looking up every goddam thing imaginable these last twelve months i am often with a book in my hand over on the couch, helps my aches and pains too. the little tiny sounds this machine makes seems to mentally block out the rest of the world, birdsong etc and this upsets me, so increasingly this machine is being switched off contrary to my general tendencey to 'web obsession/ blogging' etc etc etc ..... also as well i'm finding online to be a bloody lonely place to be ! !

subjects .. many, tho generally non fiction and biography.
