Hello

Anyone here likes contemporary classical music? I like minimalism a lot. It's my favorite type of music. I like very few works that are not minimalist, such as percurssion works (Xenakis) and Stimmung, by Stockhausen.

Can anyone advise things I might like?

I'm not too obsessed with contemporary classical music other than perhaps Schoenberg and Webern who aren't really contemporary anymore...

Maybe try Carl Vine, Lygeti, Boulez or John Cage.

I presume if you like minimalist music you already listen to Philip Glass. ;)

I think the phrase "Contemporary Classical" is a bit of an oxymoron. There is of course Neoclassicalism. Soundtrack Music seems to be heavily influenced by Classical music.

I'd like to listen to some neoclassical music but I can never find any but Stravinsky's.

I like Kalevi Aho but I have to be careful - some of it is palatable, others not so much. I also likes Peteris Vasks, Fred Jonny Berg, Philip Glass and Michel Camilo. He's primarily a jazz composer but did write a Piano Concerto and Suite for Strings.

Thank you for your sugestions.

Phiplip Glass has some really good music and some really terrible music. Arvo Part is sublime. John Cage I know very litle, but I love what I've heard, except for 4:33.

I'll check the others.

I chose the description contemporary classical music, because it seems to be the way it is called among english speakers, but I could be wrong, since english is not my first language. Is there an umbrella term, better than contemporary classical, that includes all the types of music we're talking about?

I absolutely love Ludovico Einaudi, and quite like Yann Tiersen. I'm not sure if they are similar to the other names given, but I'm looking for more artists of that genre so I'll check some of them out :)
