Does anybody else know of Travis Meeks. Like me and many others on here he was officially diagnosed with Aspergers as an adult. His music is very touching to me in soul as he understands the pain of living with this difference. Even though the man got addicted to Meth in 01' he has come a long way and is now sober and working on his newest release. I owe many thanks to this man as he has taught me much when it comes to my guitar playing and musical sense of direction. I want to thank him for many reasons but these are the main three
1) The magic of Alternate Tunings:
Alternate tunings give the guitar a different "voice" and allow for expanded ways to explore musicial creativity and helps to set the mood of the song.
2) Stage confidence: I am a very quiet person and tend to wear all black and play black basses so I can hide in the shadows and nobody bother me. Travis taught me that what other people think don't mater because when your playing music all you focus on is the music and thats what is important
3) How to Structure songs:
the structure of the music is just as important as the key, tunings, etc...
4) Don't be Fake: Be yourself and don't change yourself to suit your fans as if they are real fans they don't care about your personality or that you walk funny or you don't make eye contact. Music is easy to make when your "real" (Travis even wrote a song about this on his "red" album.)
He also taught me that the best way to handle a demanding crowd is to smash your guitar onstage and crowd surf to the exit of the venue but thats another story!
I also like that Spector Bass tone on the "yellow album"
Any other DOTN fans out there on WP? :)
