Every time this has happened, it's due to a video game soundtrack converting me to a particular song. I'm not a fan of rap either but I really liked Snoop Dog's Aint Nuthin But A G Thang and I also don't particularly seek out country music but I enjoyed All My Exe's Live in Texas. Both of these are thanks to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Vice City and GTAIV had the same affect otherwise, I'd never listen to anything, ever, outside of my genre's of choice.

I always loved Linkin Park dispite hateing almost all the genres that make up the act, I guess I just have an eye for talent. And I tend to gravitate to altrnative music anyway. People don't beleave me when I say I love them.

the single most captivating and mesmerizing thing i have ever seen on TV was the australian nat geo promo commercial from 2007 "think again".
i rarely carry on about my autism, but the circular motions and hyperbolic flow of the ad is entrancing to my senses and mind, and the music fits perfectly.

I'm not much int Rap / Hip-Hop but stumbled across this project 1 Giant Leap.
This lead me to Maxi Jazz and his other band Faithless. He seems quite spiritual to his approach to music and lyrics and makes some quality stuff. Faithless will also sometimes have Dido as a guest singer.

I like(d) KoRn, I never liked nu-metal. I like the Manic Street Preachers, and I dislike whatever weak crap their fans endorse listening to alongside the band.
There is no genre that I despise. I listen to pretty much all genres. Sure, there are some that I don't like as much as others, but I'm open to anything.

I can't stand country music usually, but I love the song "Jolene", especially when Dolly Parton sings it. And there's a Brooks and Dunn song that I like but I can't think of the name of it.
