Yay a Sabaton thread :D My favorite metal band! I love them! They´re a great mix of powerfull melodies and great lyrics about history. My favorite album is their latest "Carolus Rex: Swedish Edition" and their second best is "Art Of War". I really recommend them and they´re so good live. Joacim Brodén´s energy on stage is out of this world.

Is Sabaton like the new DragonForce, the only Power Metal band that people in the US know about? I keep hearing more and more about them.

I have never listened to Dragonforce so I don´t know what they sound like. But yes, Sabaton are seen as a Power Metal band.

Their lyrics are almost only based on history and famous battles. Much of it circles around WW2. Their latest CD "Carolus Rex" (latin for Charles XII) is about the Swedish Empire during the 17th and 18th century.

I think they´re quite popular in the States because they´ve had some tours there. They´re also quite popular in Eastern Europe. With their latest CD they´ve also been more popular here in Sweden.

However there have been controversies because the kings Charles XII and Gustav II Adolf is often used as symbols for Swedish nationalism. Sabaton are NOT nationalists, they´re just singing from an objective perspective and they´ve had to explain themselves several times that this CD has no political message at all.
