Protagonist, antagonist, horrendously evil supervillain, useless teenager in love with a sparkly vampire?

Mine at the moment is Inspector Javert from Les Miserables (the novel). I find that I identify a lot with him in some ways... you know, aside from the "drowning myself because Valjean was not the terrible person I always thought he was" thing.

That ending was so tragic and that just can't be the end, I must see more. No spoilers but it was just.. Ugh.
