I've always wanted to write a high school theatre production. I didn't get my chance senior year, but I still hope to do it. Think of it as a gift for my drama teacher. She was such an inspiration for me. The problem is that I have no story. I've got several ideas for a stage play, but I doubt they're any good, or feasible production-wise.

Okay, so...

-A Theodore Boone-esque kid attorney defends his best friend, on trial for murdering his own parents.
-A successful writer finds himself involved in the hunt for a serial killer who commits murders based on the pages of his bestsellers.
-A costume horror play in the vein of old Universal horror films.
-A Grand Guignol-style splatter play. (See link)
-An anthology of horror stories.

^ This.

Although it might not get past the school board ...

<cue the indignant school board matron>

"Dear Heavens! How could the writer even SUGGEST that a child might murder his own parents! I am shocked! SHOCKED, I say!"

Your basic whodunnit / star-crossed lovers / teen angst three-act pastiche might carry over better.

Too true. It'd be difficult to pull off a thriller or horror story on stage.

<--- When he was a teen he wrote a play called "Fear Of Flying". It was about a young man's insistence on steering clear of drugs while his friends fell from its abuses on the wayside.

<--- In retrospect, when he got older, he should've listened to his teen voice.

I have considered writing a comedy play, but given my unfortunate tendency to shock people with nihilism and depravity rather than actually making them laugh, I have my doubts.

Come to think of it, if I can't have it produced on-stage, I could write a script specifically for reading in a drama class.

That sounds exactly like the movie that came out last year called The Raven.

Personally, out of the ones you listed, I'd be most interested in seeing the Gran Guinol splatter play (that's probably the former Sweeney Todd fan in me talking).
