Just to start a conversation with other members on this site:

do you find that inspiration comes from within or no?
Inspiration seems to come from both the self and environment to me.
This is an important topic because it can tell a lot about a person's personality.

I like to write poetry, and when the poem is about a personal issue (social difficulties etc), it comes from within. When I write something about nature, it comes from both inward and outward forces, because nature to me is spiritual and I attach self to nature. I try to write unattached at times, but that's beside the point.

In short: do you derive inspiration from the inside or outside?

Mostly the outside world, for me.I see random things and I often wonder: "What would that look like if I..."

Inside. It's few and far between though, because it's hard to find that headspace anymore. I'm too busy reacting to life to create or "bring forth" so to speak. Food for thought. :)

Both/neither, I don't bother with lyrics 90% of the time, and music is just numerical sequences, granted some are more situationally useful then others.

Both...it comes from inside...but like a sudden lightening. I can not decide or know in advance at all when it comes, so in that sense it feels in away like coming from outside.

Often I mix things from inside and outside.

I prefer putting my own spin on outside events. Most of my ideas come from thinking of how else a situation could have played out or filling in niches in genres I like. I don't consider most of my personal thoughts and feelings to be exciting or interesting enough to write about.

When I write fiction, my inspiration comes from both within and without. So do downers that make me lose inspiration. For instance, this oppressive summer heat is making me want to sleep or procrastinate rather than write. :(

Do drugs count as inside or outside? Because drugs are usually what inspire me to get off my arse and write/compose something. It always feels like it's coming from outside, like I'm channeling the work of some long dead person that's way more creative than me. That feeling is probably a result of the alcohol, weed, cactus, and mushrooms I enjoy on a regular to semi-regular basis, though.

Strong feelings are the best inspiration I find.
