I'm not very far along with this book, but I'm currently reading Paul Theroux's Mosquito Coast and I wanted to know if anyone else sees aspie traits in the father. He is very intelligent, obsessively focussed on his special interests, and there is the way he talks to other characters in a detail oriented way rather than nt conversational way.

I left the book in the office so can't offer any quotes.

You know, I've never read the book, but I did see the movie starring Harrison Ford as the father years ago. At the time I watched the movie, I had no idea what Asperger's was, though now that you mention it, it makes a lot of sense.

I read that book ages ago. I was in my 20s then but I did identify most with that character. All I can remember is "Rukboos!" I might see if I still have it somewhere and read it again.

I can see that.

Also read it ages ago-long before I ever heard of aspergers. Never got around to seeing the movie.

Shortly after reading it there was a documentary on TV about a real American partriarch who lead a group into a scheme of starting a community in the amazon jungle eerily similar to that novel.
