This is me, for the first time, singing the national anthems of the USA and Canada; I will be singing both of them at my pending farewell party (before I move to L.A. this fall).

So, you're definitely moving to LA this year?

And LOL @ playing the Canadian anthem at a farewell party for moving to California. I think you once said it was a personal favourite of yours, though.

Unless it's a "Los Angeles ... my home and native land" thing.

Yes, I do love Canada; I have lived at least a couple-hour drive from their border all my life. (Until soon, that is.)

Singing a capella (without any music accompaniment) is very difficult at first. Most people aren't blessed with perfect pitch. Couple of suggestions. If you can't read music, try to learn. Then buy an inexpensive electronic keyboard (you don't have to go all out with this, as a mini keyboard with an octave and a half of range will get you started). Download and print out some musical scores, play through a few times, and then accompany yourself. Use your ear to match your vocal pitch to the note that you're playing. You clearly aren't tone deaf.

BTW, the US anthem is a difficult piece of music for anyone who isn't a trained singer. Don't get discouraged because you didn't nail it.
