I always thought that "Nude, Descending a Staircase" was just a name made up for a joke in a Calvin and Hobbes strip. I never knew it was an actual painting. :)

I know, at least I think I do, did anyone ask if it was a female or male? I have always assume it was female, and even more so, I just watched my lady, *accend the stairs", I enjoyed the motion in a way I never did.

Art in motion, a capture of a thought. Something you should think about, but might not, had it been captured.

It is the simple things that matter. I didn't understand the beatuy of a flower in bloom. Still don't to a big degree, but I can now see the concept. My god the lips on a well bloomed female? I ask you, is it not the flower itself? Poets have talked about in hidden verse for a long time, and here I sit, dense as hell. I wish I had another life time, just to see what I didn't this time around. Human condition, oh well. She's hot stuff walking up the stairs in the nude, in her own way, and I don't need Duchamp to say that, but still..... you need to smell the roses and take a moment, to know you did.

That's exactly what I thought about when I read the thread title. Although I guessed that it was probably some famous work of art I had never seen.

Has the painting and/or title gone over my head, or is it just a thing to look at that some may like and others 'eh' at?

The great thing about art is that each individual experiences a piece of artwork in their own way, so there is really no right or wrong interpretation. But if you want a good academic explanation about why art movements (Impressionists, Surrealists, Dadaists, etc.) are important and what made painters like Monet, Rosseau, Duchamp and others greats, I recommend a book by Will Gompertz, What Are You Looking At?: 150 Years of Modern Art in a Nutshell .

If I read anymore I would take a good look at that, thanks.

I read in gulps, net shorts, anymore, and no more long things. Sad but true. I haven't been able to read a book in many many years. So glad I ate books when I was younger.

Sad on that hand but not so sad, I have formed opinions on art and what it means to me. I know what I like. Sometimes I have to look at it more then once, to see a different point of view. Like listening to Hendrix play, for the very first time, and now, I'm not sure I don't hear all music differently.
