This thread is for songs about Autism Spectrum. Please post them :bounce:

Fred Neil, who wrote Everybodies Talking, left music to work with dolphins. Here is a song he wrote about them.

Maybe this is why i relate to these guys so much but i feel Simple Plan has made a few songs that sound like they describe people with AS

Welcome to my life

And a new song they just released about being socially akward

The rest of us

When I was younger I related to this song quite a lot, and I still do occasionally. I'm not sure if being bored out of your mind but being too lazy to actually want to do anything is so much an AS-specific trait as just a depressed teenage trait in general. (warning, a bit of NSFW language)

This song reminds me of what it's like when I'm trying to deal with other people who won't let me have any space, or who insist on interrupting me when I'm trying to tell them something.

This song summarizes part of my attitude on life; my strive to be an independently-thinking individual, and not one of the sheeple. (warning, a lot of NSFW language)

I always thought that Craig Finn, lead singer of the art-punk/indie/bar band, The Hold Steady was an Aspie.
It would be wrong to say he looks like an Aspie, but he certainly looks like the stereotypical nerd. That aside, he has odd, jerky mannerisms while performing, including straight-at-his-side-arm-flapping and an occasional nonrhythmic head shaking. In interviews, he comes off as shy and uncomfortable, or at least more so than the average rock singer.

Of course the most glaring piece of evidence to me is his approach to songwriting. First off, not being a great singer, most of the music (and especially the early stuff and his previous band, Lifter Puller) is performed in singsong, or some kind of free verse poetry. What I'm talking about is the content. Most (90%+) of his songs follow a richly detailed narrative surrounding a group of people, their experiences, and interactions with each other. This makes all the albums concept albums, but not stand alone ones. It is also non-linear, and there is enough exposition that without being explicitly told so, the attentive listener can know if a song from The Hold Steady's third album comes before a song on their first album within the narrative's timeline. With his previous band he did the same thing, but with different characters and a different story involving a night club fire. This level of detail feels a bit Aspie-ish to me, too.

One song that isn't set in the "Hold Steady-verse" is a B-side called, "Touchless." It stands out to me as an Aspie song, and seemingly from Finn's own perspective.

Well they scratched at my shoulder and they ripped at my shirt.
I went back inside and I got seen by some nurse.
We keep getting trouble by these street level struggles,
I just wanna be, untouchable.
U.S. ingenuity, Canadian Security,
British Amplifiers, Point to Point technology.
They showed up in the dressing room and pretty much surrounded me.
I just wanna be, untouchable.
I saw you coming at me,
I assumed you would attack me.
Didn't seem like you were coming in peace.
You came too close, too quick,
You put your nails in my neck,
You cried when they asked you to leave,
You shoulda gone touchless.
Waking up at two; rolling through the night,
The sound check ritual blocking out the light,
Look into the mezzanine to show some signs of life.
I don't wanna seem, unreachable.
I saw you coming at me,
I assumed you would attack me.
Didn't know if you're a friend or a freak.
You came too close, too quick,
You put your nails in my neck,
You cried when they asked you to leave,
You shoulda gone touchless.
You gotta watch what you wish for.
You gotta watch what you wish for.
The bouncers are bracing, for action up front.
Everybody's wound pretty tight.
It always seems to start,
When somebody takes a bottle outside.
I saw you coming at me,
I assumed you would attack me.
Didn't seem like you were coming in peace.
You came too close, too quick,
You put your nails in my neck,
You cried when they asked you to leave,
You shoulda gone touchless.
You gotta watch what you wish for.
You shoulda gone touchless.
You gotta watch what you wish for.

I was listening to this song earlier on, and I found the lyrics painted an accurate picture of what autism can be like for a lot of people.

Invisible kid
Never see what he did
Got stuck where he hid
Fallen through the grid

Invisible kid
Got a place of his own
Where he'll never be known
Inward he's grown

Invisible kid
Locked away in his brain
From the shame and the pain
World down the drain

Invisible kid
Suspicious of your touch
Don't want no crutch
But it's all too much

I hide inside
I hurt inside
I hide inside
But I'll show you...

I'm ok, just go away
Into distance let me fade
I'm ok, just go away
I'm ok, but please don't stray too far

Open your heart
I'm beating right here
Open your mind
I'm being right here, right now (x2)

Invisible kid
Never see what he did
Got stuck where he hid
Fallen through the grid

Invisible kid
Got a place of his own
Where he'll never be known
Inward he's grown

I hide inside
I hurt inside
I hide inside
But I'll show you...

I'm ok, just go away
Into distance let me fade
I'm ok, just go away
I'm ok, but please don't stray too far

Open your heart
I'm beating right here
Open your mind
I'm being right here, right now (x2)

Oooh, what a good boy you are
Out of the way and you're kept to yourself
Oooh, can't you see that he's not here?
He doesn't want the attention you give
Oooh, unplugging from it all
Invisible kid, floats alone in his room
Oooh, what a quiet boy you are
He looks so calm floating 'round and around in himself

Invisible kid
Locked away in his brain
From the shame and the pain
World down the drain

Invisible kid
Suspicious of your touch
Don't want no crutch
But it's all too much

I hide inside
I hurt inside
I hide inside
But I'll show you...

I'm ok, just go away
Into distance let me fade
I'm ok, just go away
I'm ok, but please don't stray too far

Open your heart
I'm beating right here
Open your mind
I'm being right here, right now (x2)

I couldn't tell you if this song is actually about the Autism spectrum, but I resonate with it and consider it my theme song.

Quote:
Oh, I'm a sad, sad robot
I'm a sad, sad robot
I'm all alone

The songs are not really about the spectrum (but I think at least the first one is about an Aspergers girl) and they are Polish so you probably won't like listening to them very much but those are songs which I could identify with when I was a teenage.

Ania Dąbrowska - "Inna" ("Different")
(My translation:)

She was sixteen, she didn't wear anything fashionable
She wouldn't smile and she wouldn't say "hello"
No one tried anymore to enter her head and understand:
why does she rebel although she still doesn't know enough?

She had
thousand thoughts at once and too little time to
do anything.
She couldn't smile at you for you to notice her,
among many others.
(Among many others)
there is a different girl too...

Don't think that you meet her - she spends her time alone.
So usually - she always goes to bed early.
She doesn't pretend she's someone, she doesn't try.
She listens to the same CDs all the time, she isn't bored.

She still doesn't smile, although so much time passed
she didn't learn how to compromise.
Everyone tries to enter her head and understand:
how long is it possible to wade and what sense it makes?

She still has
thousand thoughts at once and too little time to
do anything.
She couldn't smile at you for you to notice her,
among many others.
(Among many others)
there is a different girl too...

Varius Manx - "Bezimienna" ("Nameless")
(My translation:)

In a place where God is already gone,
there is a city without love.
There, like sign of heavens
the innocent she appears
has a voice full of hope
Her hands are full of sensitivity
She wants to give so much,
kindle a flame in their empty hearts.
Although she is fragile as a flower,
she is trying to change the world.

Nameless,
your face is too true.
Nameless,
you wake a fear in their empty hearts.
Nameless,
how much force is necessary and how much beauty,
to wake them up?

So much faith she has.
But blank faces in the empty homes
wish her pain
want to see her when she cries.
They do not know the tears.
long forgotten about them.
Here there is no longer a space
for the hands full of sensitivity.
Although she is fragile as a flower,
she still desires to change the world.

Nameless,
your face is too true.
Nameless,
you wake a fear in their empty hearts.
Nameless,
how much force is necessary and how much beauty,
to wake them up?

So much faith she has...

Papa Dance - "Ona Była Inna" ("She was different")
(My translation:)

He started a fire in her heart and escaped.
The fire burned her and heat.
She was alone in all the places
where they experienced heaven...
Autumn was passing with waiting and tears,
even the postman wanted to send her a letter.
Everyone around was whispering: "She will forget, she will deal with it."

She was different,
a jewel on a blank background,
loyal like a shadow,
inaccessible like an imagined shore.
She was different,
Straight, so slender.
So proud in her "no"
inaccessible like an imagined shore
or a dream...

When this slender girl was wafting through a park
the boys were looking, breathless.
Every of them was thinking:
"Maybe one day she will call me: My"
The world was reeling when she was walking,
There were some who were wasting their time.
Right after her were running
bad voices and bad thoughts,
Angry whispers of girls:
"Revenge is in her head
she is pretending to be better than us"

She was different,
a jewel on a blank background,
loyal like a shadow,
inaccessible like an imagined shore.
She was different,
Straight, so slender.
So proud in her "no"
inaccessible like an imagined shore
or a dream...

Believe or not,
not even a year passed
Aversion banished her from there.

Stop the stupid violence,
Admit it.

This is the end of the story,
that ends so sad.
Hey! I also would prefer
a happy end.

This is the end of the story,
that ends so sad.
Stop the stupid violence,
Admit it...

eninem:my legacy...don't believe me. PARENTAL ADVISORY EXPLICIT CONTENT lots of swearing (hope i don't get in trouble for posting this)

[Intro: Polina]
Tell me where to go, tell me what to do, I’ll be right there for you
Tell me what to say, don’t matter if it’s true, I’ll say it all for you

[Verse 1: Eminem]
I used to be the type of kid that, would always think the sky is falling
Why am I so differently wired? Am I a martian?
What kind of twisted experiment am I involved in
Cause I don't belong in this world
That’s why I'm scoffing at authority, defying often
Flying off at the handle with my mom, no dad
So I’m non complying at home, at school I’m just shy and awkward
And no I don’t need no goddamn psychologist
Tryna diagnose why I have all these underlying problems
Thinking he can try and solve 'em, I’m outside chalking up
Drawings on the sidewalk and in the front drive talking to myself
Either that or inside hiding off in
The corner somewhere quiet, trying not to be noticed
I’m crying and sobbing, I had a bad day at school so I ain't talking
Some cocksucker shoved me into a f*****g locker, he said I eyeballed him

[Bridge: Polina]
And if you fall, ill get you there, I’ll be your savior from all the wars
That are fought inside your world, please have faith in my words cause

[Hook: Polina]
This is my legacy (Legacy)
This is my legacy (Legacy)
There’s no guarantee, it’s not up to me you can only see
This is my legacy (Legacy)
Legacy (Legacy)

[Verse 2: Eminem]
I used to be the type of kid that, would always think the sky is falling
Why am I so differently wired in my noggin?
Cause sporadic as my thoughts come, it's mind boggling
Cause I obsess on everything and my mind it’s small s**t
Bothers me but now my father, he said Sayonara, then split
But I don’t give a s**t I’m fine long as
There's batteries in my Walkman nothing is the matter with me
s**t look at the bright side at least I ain’t walking
I bike ride through the neighborhood of my apartment
Complex on a ten speed which I've acquired parts that I
Find in the garbage, a frame and put tires on it
Headphones on straight ahead and kids try to start s**t,
But if this all there is for me Life offers
Why bother even try and put up a fight It's nonsense
But i think a lightbulb just lit up in my conscience
What about those rhymes I've been jottin'
They are kinda giving me confidence
Instead of tryina escape through my comics,
Why don't I just blast a little something like Onyx
To put me in the mood to wanna fight and write songs that
Say what I wanna say to the kid that said that I eyeballed him
Grab hold of my balls like that's right fight's on b***h
Who would've knew from the moment I turned the mic on
I could be iconic, and my conquest is
Word to Phife Dawg from a Tribe Called Quest

[Hook]

[Verse 3: Eminem]
I used to be the type of kid that, would always think the sky is falling
Now I think the fact that I'm differently wired's awesome
Cause if I wasn't I wouldn't be able to work
Words like this and connect lines like crosswords
And use my enemy's words as strength
To try and draw from, and get inspired off em
Cause all my life I was told and taught I am not s**t
By you wack f*****g giant sacks of lying dog s**t
Now you shut up b***h I am talking
Thought I was full of horses**t and now
You f*****g worship the ground in which I am walking
Me against the world so what? I'm Brian Dawkins
Versus the whole 0 and 16 Lions offense
So bring on the Giants Falcons and Miami Dolphins
It's the body bag game b***h I'm supplying coffins
Cause you dicks, butt kiss, a bunch of brian baldingers
You gon die a ball licker I've been diabolical
With this dialogue since 99 Rawkus
You don't respect the legacy I leave behind y'all can
Suck a dick The day you beat me pigs'll fly out my ass
And a flying saucer full of Italian sausage
The most high exalting and I ain't halting
Till I die of exhaustion inhale my exhaust fumes
The best part about me is I am not you
I am me I'm a fire marshall and this is my
