Southern Rock merged the redneck and the hippie who were enemies in the 60's. It was huge at the time on Long Island of all places.

It's never been a genre I've been too big on, but I have respect for Molly Hatchet and ZZ Top, and definitely mad props to Creedence Clearwater Revival.

I don't know if Kansas would could since they were more Southern-tinged prog rock, but their first several albums were excellent.

I'm more an alt-country lover, but I guess southern rock blends in quite nice. CCR was great and I love Lynyrd Skynyrd ... it was only when I started listening to Drive-By Truckers that I started to understand the things that were going (or supposedly) ... think of the use of rebel flag and the controversy between Neil Young and Lynyrd Skynyrd ...

I remember Southern Rock being very popular in my 70's youth. I didn't much like it except for Little Feat which I love with abandon, and all the sexy food they put on the album covers. To me they didn't feel like Southern Rock even though they obviously are. But they just didn't feel to me the same as Lynnrd Skynnrd, Charlie Daniels Band, Allman Brothers etc.

Jim Dandy makes my skin crawl. I don't know why. It just does. But Fat Man In The Bathtub makes me delirious with joy even though the image ought to make my skin crawl.

As a young teen in the 80s, I was a big fan of bands like Lynnrd Skynnrd, CDB, Allman Brothers and ZZ Top...

I pretty much outgrew them all except for ZZ Top (which is really more of a Rock/Blues band).

I found this band several years ago.

A little harder music but they cross several genres.
