Show don't tell?

I always hear about this in writing a lot. People say that you should show the readers, not tell them. I find this difficult to do because I feel like in order for them to understand anything... they need to be told. It's hard to really 'show' them what a meltdown looks like or an outburst in writing. I had someone tell me this on another forum, and it's really confusing. D:
