In Chapter Three, Mr. Lockwood is amid the Stacks in the room he is placed in.

Peruses the diary of a little girl.

Then falls asleep amid said musty books and dreams a most theological dream of numerancy...

That's 3/4's of the Chapter.

Wuthering Heights (the home) is most likely based on Ponden Hall (above), whence Emily and her sisters often walked to borrow books from a large family library.

There is circumstantial evidence that Emily was in in love with Robert Heaton (anagram --> Hereton Earnshaw) whose family owned Ponden Hall for generations.

These are photos of the enclosed box bed from Ponden Hall, as described in Chapter 3.
I can't imagine sleeping in a box bed 8O I'd have claustrophobia once those doors were shut!

Mr. Heathcliff hears Lockwood screaming during the dream, is enraged at being woken up. Lockwood is apologetic superficially. Heathcliff is enraged, since his "secret" is being revealed. Dispatches Lockwood to another room.

Catherine (the ghost) is ushered into the house by Heathcliff supposedly surreptitiously. Lockwood heard, though.

I wouldn't be surprised if this influenced subsequent Gothic works.

An amazingly straightforward commencement of the story. No demurrals, no authorial commentary.

This is from my annotated edition. It's the window as drawn by Emily, aged 10. I hope you are able to see it clearly.

Wow Kraftiekortie you are so observant! I am just entranced by the two chapters I have read already and off to read more. The story starts in with a roar - no mucking about. I find the writing style gripping. It is very immediate. I don't have too much trouble with the old man's vernacular, coming from the north of England myself. More Lancashire than Yorkshire though. Be back soon.

The old man sounds downright Scottish to me. Many Scottish pronunciations.

I guess it could sound like that, but the contracted ‘t for the seems to be a yorkshire thing. I could well be wrong. Will try and find the old song ‘on Ilkley Moor bar’t’hat ‘ for a demo of the accent.
