ever since a kid ive been obsessed w good comic books, never much into reading books, too ... yeah, just "too". hastle and all.
in school i always loved to write stories tho, i hated when we got some sort of guideline to follow, i always tried to avoid it as much as possible, while keeping it JUST within topic.
later, when my dad got a computer, when i was some 12-13 i begun writing comedic short stories, over the years i must have written hundreds. on my computer now, i got some 30 short stories.
about 10 of them, are about a space hero, that i invented allready as early as 12-13 years old, who has come and gone in various short stories.
4-5 years ago, i wrote some 40 pages, before my inspiration completely died.
as time went by, i felt worse and worse about what i had written, the language was inconsistent, and i discarded it completely, and started all over.
i finally finished it, 250 pages gallows humored sci-fi, a sort of "realistic" take on a star-wars-ish premise, except a few rules i made for myself:
# NO ROBES. Humans quit wearing robes a long time ago, and we most certainly wont use robes as space-suits.
# No laser weapons. Projectiles work wonders, laser just melts stuff. seems silly to me.
# No interdimentional travel, also no intergalactic travel. ONE galaxy is more than big enough for a story to take place.
# No androids. I dont like them.
# No "evil", or "dark lord" or anything irrational like that. there is conflict yes, epic if you will, but w basic economic reasons.
# No "destroy us all" menace, since -see above- it would be more economic to control a planet like a vassal.
# No noble behaviour for the sake of promoting good morals. if necesary, the captain leaves everyone behind to die.
# despite including teleports in some related short-stories, ive decided to declare those "non-canon". No teleport.
i tried to pull the story in different directions, making it unpredictable and chaotic. this makes it lose the standard progression, and maybe make it kinda tedious, but thats the way its gonna be!
also, a first for me, was a female character (other than receptionists and stuff). i think it was by the 4th chapter, i suddenly realized "hm... this is bordering on kinda gay... " so i added two "main character" females, one to be a lead character, and another just to add a regular background female. i plan on continuing the story, when i get a new boost of inspiration, and i will attempt a few other concepts that are challenging to me, maybe some romance and stuff.
but my absolutely MOST important rule is:
# No serious-faced drama. everything has a cheeky edge to it, and so would any romance, death or whatever. i love describing horrible scenes of pain and anguish, and keep that tongue-in-cheek spirit even then
all i have left to do now, is READ it all (teeeedious) in order to polish it, and complete it.
im actually very proud :]
