And so it all finally leads to this
Finally, finally I have started seriously writing my first to-be book, hopefully leading to a full serie. I'm not having much emphasis on it at the moment, but will write it slowly alongside some short stories I might come up with (= experience. I still have lots to learn, especially about dialogue [or then forget about dialogue altogether..]). It is my main project I've been planning for atleast 8 years.
Writing is something I find extremely fascinating and wish to keep on always doing. So... yay.
The story/stories are for the most part located in a world that could be from any random fantasy universe, but the idea is to completely break down the settings as philosophical/theological questions are what keep it all running. I seek to build it up, only to completely smash it down. There are two real main characters, other one of them being an Aspie (or atleast otherwise 'weird'), though never to be said out loud. It should, however, be obvious from the behaviour. I'm bit paranoid about revealing too much (EDIT: I just read the other thread and spot the nearly exact words
), so I'll keep it at minimum.
I'm quite excited, but also slightly frightened.
Before posting this, I wish to include some words that inspired me to start tonight.
"I don’t know many works of art that last that are
condescending. I don’t know many works of art that last that are
deliberately stupid. You may be a geek, you may have geek
written all over you; you should aim to be one geek they’ll
never forget. Don’t aim to be civilized. Don’t hope that
straight people will keep you on as some kind of pet. To hell
with them; they put you here. You should fully realize what
society has made of you and take a terrible revenge. Get weird.
Get way weird. Get dangerously weird. Get sophisticatedly,
thoroughly weird and don’t do it halfway, put every ounce of
horsepower you have behind it. Have the artistic *courage* to
recognize your own significance in culture!"
I'd say it is. There will be some sci-fi and other genres mixed, but it's mainly fantasy.
Mine's more of a mix of sci-fi (particularly postcyberpunk) and noir with some satire. Well, it's more satirical now than in it's original iteration.
I can understand your paranoia on this. I have a similar thread here, and someone copied the opening post, for a laugh. I was furious.
Here's a few tips: get a book that helps you on how to write from your library. Look at the writing styles of your favourite authors.
And don't be afraid to revise things. My story went through several phases, from a space opera, to a historical fantasy, to a comedy-horror, and finally to this new iteration, all while keeping the same over-arching story and characters, believe it or not. And this was well before I committed to typing it up.
