Does anyone on here sew? :)

I've got a bit of a head of steam up at the moment, having looked over Coast's new season (none of which I can fit into or afford  ), but what I can do is make something similar! :D Except they seem to be using drape, pleats, frills and ties, none of which I have much experience of. So I've just spent the past 3 hours browsing various sites to see if I can find similar patterns which I can adapt, enlarge or copy from. The only problem is, I can't quite decide what I want the end result to be.

I usually go for flared skirts with fitted bodices, so I think I'm heading towards a chiffon dress with flared skirt, fitted bodice with vertical leaf pleats, possibly a tie belt or bow at the apex of the pleats, Princess or V neckline and puffed sleeves with mid-arm cinch, ending in trailing ends. Hmm. Not that I can draw this, but I have an idea in my head 8) .

So what are you working on? :)

I sew! I'm big on all the fabric arts, actually (you might say they're a special interest of mine).

I'm not good enough at sewing to make clothes, I mostly make housewares (curtains, etc.), costumes for my kids (this is the most fitted thing I make), and I even sewed my kids' crib bedding, complete with quilting. That was a labor of love, let me tell you.

Good luck on your projects!

If you want to see the last thing I made, Google Simplicity 3725; I made the fancy dress in the lower lefthand corner.

Every once in a while, I sew something. Last thing I made was a modern kilt. You can view it in my profile over on xmarksthescot.com. Next sewing project will likely be another more traditional kilt (out of cheep plaid fabric) as practice for when the tartan comes in for my nice kilt... Ia! Ia! Cthulu Fghtan!

I love to sew! :bounce: I get a kick out of sourcing second-hand clothing that nobody else wants, and making it into something amazing.

I don't make clothes for myself, although I've made stuff for my dog. A winter coat, and a few harnesses.

I usually have to make dresses for myself cos I'm 49-41-49!

Plus, I love my summer dresses, but it's so hard to find ones which allow a girl to wear a bra ;).

Ooh, I was wondering whether to teach my Brownies to make something like this (but a lot simpler!)

You might want to use the simpler Colonial styles, as the "dressy" one really taxed my skills. Too much gathering! The bonnet might be fun, though, as that wasn't too hard. I learned sewing basics in 7th and 8th grade (ages 12-13), here in the U.S., about 30 years ago (both boys and girls had to learn it, too!). I doubt any schools teach this anymore, which is a shame.

Yes, my sewing class at school involved us being ignored by the teacher, *LOL*. It was only years later when I needed a costume for a festival that I asked someone to help me, and she proceeded to teach me how to sew. 20 years later I'm still learning :). My school teacher probably would wonder how I was managing it! ;)
