I'm not sure how the Moody Blues slipped my mind, but they deserve a mention as well. Absolutely love Days of Future Passed.

Also while I don't love King Crimson's body of work: 21st Century Schizoid Man is one of my favorite songs.

Can't say I'm a big fan of Porcupine Tree, although I do like the Steven Wilson remixes of classic Jethro Tull albums that amazon keeps convincing me to buy.

Based on people's lists I guess I'll have to check out Opeth, Haken, and Marillon. Haven't heard of those bands previously.

I wouldn't be surprised, maybe even the keyboard player, is autistic.

What's in the milk they're feeding these young kids who can play all this advanced progressive stuff by themselves?!

I notice some people listing the Moody Blues. I remember the prog rock Usenet group often debated whether they were truly prog or just art rock like Supertramp and the like. If both bands count as prog, they'd edge out Floyd and Tull for me. Supertramp in particular might even be #2 after Yes if they count. I just adored those bands back in my prog-rock-filled adolescence.
