1. Because I like the band.
2. Because I like the design.
3. Because bands make more money from licensing out their names/logos/faces than they do from their records.
4. As a gig memento.
5. To spread the word about the band to people who've not heard of them.
6. To show a part of myself to people, e.g. Black Flag showing my love of hardcore although this is a bad example since the Black Flag t-shirt has become ubiquitous entirely separately from the band.

I have band shirts for Greenday and U2.

I wear them because I like the design and the bands themselves. Plus, they were only $5 each so could not resist a bargain.

Same here. It's also a conversation-starter, which is incredibly useful to me as an introverted aspie. Music is one of the only things I always like to talk about. It's very convenient when someone just comes up to me and compliments my shirt - if I'm feeling social I can talk to them about the band and if not I just give a quick reply and go about my business.

This Dimebag Darrell shirt I am wearing, every day that I wear it I am always getting random comments from people about this shirt. Dime would be proud to see how much he was loved by so many.

I also have shirts by:

Velvet Revolver
The Doors
Paul McCartney
Herman's Hermits
The Beatles
Disturbed
Led Zeppelin
Black Sabbath
Hellyeah
John Lennon

JohnHopkins pretty much sums it up for me. I don't always wear a band shirt, though - I often prefer just a lightweight plain white or black one.

Yeah, let's everyone list what band t-shirts they have.

In addition to my Rage Against The Machine, Billy Talent and Gogol Bordello t-shirts:
blink-182 t-shirt from their last UK tour
Pink Floyd Animals shirt
Pink Floyd Division Bell shirt
Gallows fan lady t-shirt
Phatfish 'I'm with the band' t-shirt
MC5
Weezer cartoon t-shirt
Refused discontent t-shirt
Mad Capsule Markets t-shirt

I have others, but they escape me atm.

Almost all of my t-shirts are band t-shirts. I wear them because I love music and I did consider perhaps someone with a similar music taste would start a conversation with me but it hasn't happened yet... The band t-shirts I have at the moment are; 7Seconds, Bear Vs Shark, Crass, Cursive, Dead Kennedys, Fear Before the March of Flames, Forward Russia, Napalm Death, The Clash. Currently waiting for; Bathory, Mayhem and Subhumans.

Dark Tranquillity '06 Australian tour shirt.
Pathogen Bloodlines shirt - I'm wearing this right now.
Amon Amarth 'viking head' shirt.
Arch Enemy Doomsay Machine era shirt (I bought a medium instead of a large - big mistake. It's too small to wear now.)

... Eesh, I thought I had more band shirts. I guess not.

You should wear a band shirt whenever you wish to identify yourself as a fan of a particular band or genre, obviously.

I'm wearing a Beatles shirt, right now. I really should update my band shirts and buy some that feature punk groups, seeming that I've moved on from the 1960s, to the 1970s.

I enjoy wearing band shirts on occasion, but not all of the time. I've started up a few conversations with my SLAYER t-shirts. I generally find the material to be quite long lasting and comfy.

I own:
2X slayer t-shirts
Meshuggah t-shirt
Billy Talent t-shirt

I don't have many but i like what i have.

i dont have many, but have bought some on occasion. mostly in my metal days, though, and they now reside in the drawer of my sister who gladly wears them. :)

yesterday, i bought one, though: i was on a kirlian camera concert and HOLY LORD DID THEY RAWK. the design of the shirt was great, too, so i bought one. :)
