Calling all multi-instrumentalists!

Who are you and what instruments do you play? Do you have a particular instrument you like better than any other? A fellow multi-instrumentalist would like to know.

I play the cello, guitar, bass, drums, tympani and I used to play the trombone. The cello was my first love (and always will be) but really, I love all the instruments I play. I started playing the cello when I was 10 and it all snowballed from that point - that is to say, I picked up more instruments and found that if I was given a couple of hours alone, I could figure out how to play just about anything. I also discovered at age 12 that I had perfect pitch.

I play guitar, bass, Drums (of most sorts) and the Didgeridoo, but I can't get that circular breathing down. I suppose most of them are fairly similar, but still, it's the subtle differences that count. I prefer to play bass because it was my first instrument, and it's just fun. I don't think I have absoloute pitch, but it's still very good.

Fiddle, banjo, mandolin, bodhrán, hammered dulcimer, Anglo concertina, tin whistle, guitar, and I dance.

The fiddle, mandolin, and banjo all came after I turned 50.

I love the versatility of the fiddle so much that my next banjo will have no frets on it as well.

I play guitar most of all, but I also play bass almost as well, piano at an alright level, drums (badly), organ, percussion, I've been known to play harmonica. I'm probably best at singing, actually.

My favourite is without doubt a piano. There is nothing as satisfying as sitting at a piano, the immense noise it can make, the satisfaction of a big chord, the range of tones you can get from it.

Its the notes between the notes that I miss being able to use to make music with fretted and stationary keyboarded instruments.

Guitar, bass, piano, violin, percussion (to a degree), mandolin; I have a pretty easy time with all stringed instruments or even key-based, as I also can play harpsichord. I can also play the Theremin though I don't own a working one anymore.

Hi there,
I'm me and play flute, fiddle and mandolin. Each one serves a purpose for me so I like them all.

I've been playing guitar seriously for over five years and banjo for just under two years. I'm almost getting better on banjo because I focus on one style of music with that - bluegrass, whereas with guitar I like to play many styles. I can hold my own in a jam session, so that makes me really happy to have gotten to that point. I want to take up pedal steel guitar when I can afford one.

This is why I will always want a real piano, not an electric.

That's why I hate electric drumsets and only play acoustic. They have a much more satisfying resonance.

erm, a real piano is still only tempered in the chromatic scale, you can't play any notes "in between"...and so a synthesizer is in fact, more expressive than a piano...as you can do things such as portamento and use pitch bend/modulation wheels + however many knobs you want to tweak real time changes in the sound.x

It's the tone and the feel, though. It's not literal notes in between, it's the sound of the notes clashing, of the strings vibrating. Just things that an electric will never be able to recreate.

oh right...well you have physical modelling synthesis these days which you set up a virtual string, a virtual pick and virtual sound box, or virtual reeds and mouthpieces, and you can do crazy stuff with it...i made a virtual wooden trumpet...some crazy warbling hurdy gurdy thing and a cross between a harpsichord and a zither that sustained for over 20 seconds...

god...i love synthesis ^.^
