Who here listens to music for the meaning of the words? And what is the song that has touched you the most?

For me, it's pretty much the only reason I enjoy music as much as I do. The song that has touched me the most is "Outside" by Staind...

Staind wrote:
I'm on the outside, I'm looking in
I can see through you, see your true colours
Cause inside you're ugly, you're ugly like me
I can see through you, see to the real you

NWA - f**k The Police!

f**k the police
Comin’ straight from the underground
Young n***a got it bad cause I'm brown
And not the other color so police think
They have the authority to kill a minority
f**k that s**t, cause I ain't the one
For a punk mother f****r with a badge and a gun
To be beatin’ on, and throw in jail
We could go toe to toe in the middle of a cell
f****n with me cause I'm a teenager
With a little bit of gold and a pager
Searching my car, looking for the product
Thinking every n***a is selling narcotics
You'd rather see me in the pen
Then me and Lorenzo rolling in the Benzo
Beat the police outta shape
And when I'm finished, bring the yellow tape
To tape off the scene of the slaughter
Still can't swallow bread and water
I don't know if they fags or what
Search a n***a down and grabbing his nuts
And on the other hand, without a gun they can't get none
But don't let it be a black and a white one
Cause they slam ya down to the street top
Black police showing out for the white cop
Ice Cube will swarm
On any mother f****r in a blue uniform
Just cause I'm from the CPT, punk police are afraid of me
A young n***a on a war path
And when I'm finished, it's gonna be a bloodbath
Of cops, dying in LA
Yo Dre, I got something to say

[Eazy-E]
f**k the police (4X)

[Dr.Dre]
Example of scene one:
Pull your goddamn ass over right now
[MC Ren]
Ah s**t, what the f**k you pulling me over for?
[Dr.Dre]
Cause I feel like it, Just sit your ass on the curb and shut the f**k up
[MC Ren]
Man, f**k this s**t
[Dr.Dre]
Alright smartass, I'm taking your black ass to jail
M. C. Ren, will you please give your testimony to the jury about this f****d up
incident.

[MC Ren]
f**k the police and Ren said it with authority
because the niggaz on the street is a majority.
A gang, is with whoever I'm stepping
and the mother f*****g weapon
is kept in a stash box, for the so-called law
wishing Ren was a n***a that they never saw
Lights start flashing behind me
But they're scared of a n***a so they mace me to blind me
But that s**t don't work, I just laugh
Because it gives em a hint not to step in my path
To the police I'm saying f**k you punk
Reading my rights and s**t, it's all junk
Pulling out a silly club, so you stand
With a fake assed badge and a gun in your hand
But take off the gun so you can see what's up
And we'll go at it punk, I'ma f**k you up
Make ya think I'm a kick your ass
But drop your gat, and Ren's gonna blast
I'm sneaky as f**k when it comes to crime
But I'm a smoke em now, and not next time
Smoke any mother f****r that sweats me
Or any ass hole that threatens me
I'm a sniper with a hell of a scope
Takin out a cop or two, they can't cope with me
The mother f*****g villain that's mad
With potential to get bad as f**k
So I'm a turn it around
Put in my clip, yo, and this is the sound [Bang, Bang]
Ya, something like that, but it all depends on the size of the gat
Taking out a police would make my day
But a n***a like Ren don't give a f**k to say

[Eazy-E]
f**k the police (4X)

[Eazy-E]
Yo, man, what you need?
[Dr.Dre]
Police, open now. We have a warrant for Eazy-E's arrest
Get down and put your hands up where I can see em
Just shut the f**k up and get your muthafuckin ass on the floor [Huh]
Yo Eazy-E, why don't you step up to the stand
and tell the jury how you feel about this BS

[Eazy-E]
I'm tired of the mother f*****g jacking
Sweating my gang while I'm chilling in the shacking
Shining the light in my face, and for what
Maybe it's because I kick so much butt
I kick ass, or maybe cause I blast
On a stupid assed n***a when I'm playing with the trigger
Of any Uzi or an AK Cause the police always got something stupid to say
They put up my picture with silence
Cause my identity by itself causes violence
The E with the criminal behavior
Yeah, I'm a gangsta, but still I got flavor
Without a gun and a badge, what do ya got?
A sucker in a uniform waiting to get shot,
By me, or another n***a.
and with a gat it don't matter if he's smarter or bigger
[MC Ren: Size don't mean s**t, he's from the old school, fool]
And as you all know, E's here to rule
Whenever I'm rolling, keep looking in the mirror
And there's no cue, yo, so I can hear a
Dumb mother f****r with a gun
And if I'm rolling off the 8, he'll be the one
That I take out, and then get away
And while I'm driving off laughing
This is what I'll say

[Eazy-E]
f**k the police (4X)

[Dr.Dre]
The verdict
The jury has found you guilty of being a redneck,
white bread, chicken s**t mother f****r
Wait, that's a lie. That's a goddamn lie
I want justice! I want justice!
f**k you, you black mother f****r

It would be a toss up between

Evanescence –Hello

hello I’m your mind giving you someone to talk to
hello

if I smile and don't believe
soon I know I’ll wake from this dream
don't try to fix me I’m not broken
hello I’m the lie living for you so you can hide
don't cry

suddenly I know I’m not sleeping
hello I’m still here
all that's left of yesterday

Or

Live –Overcome

even now the world is bleeding' but feeling' just fine all numb
in our castle where we're always free to choose never free
enough
to find I wish something' would break cuz we're running' out of
time

and I am overcome I am overcome holy water in my lungs I am
overcome

Or

Garbage -Bleed Like Me

Chris is all dressed up and acting coy
Painted like a brand new Christmas toy
He's trying to figure out if he's a girl or he's a boy
He says:
Hey baby can you bleed like me?
C'mon baby can you bleed like me

Doodle takes Dad's scissors to her skin
And when she does relief comes setting in
While she hides the scars she's making underneath her pretty clothes
She sings:
Hey baby can you bleed like me?
C'mon baby can you bleed like me

this song was covered by hole a few years ago and, as courtney love put it, it's "a real feminist anthem"!

carol king wrote:

he hit me (and it felt like a kiss)

he hit me and it felt like a kiss
he hit me but it didn't hurt me
he couldn't stand to hear me say
that i'd been with someone new
and when i told him i had been untrue

he hit me and it felt like a kiss
he hit me and i knew he loved me
'cause if he didn't care for me
i could have never made him mad
he hit me and i was glad

baby, won't you stay...

he hit me and it felt like a kiss
he hit me and i knew i loved him
'cause when he took me in his arms
with all the tenderness there is
he hit me and he made me glad

baby, won't you stay...

Almost anything by Mark Schultz or Rich Mullins has a lot of meaning. :)

Umm... interesting songs, guys. I don't know if Aaron wanted quite that much randomness for songs... :?

Whitin temptation feat. tarja turunen from Nightwish - Our farewell:

Sharon:
In my hands
A legacy of memories
I can hear you say my name
I can almost see your smile
Feel the warmth of your embrace
But there is nothing but silence now
Around the one I loved
Is this our farewell?

Tarja:
Sweet darling you worry too much, my child
See the sadness in your eyes
You are not alone in life
Although you might think that you are

Sharon:
Never thought
This day would come so soon
We had no time to say goodbye
How can the world just carry on?
I feel so lost when you are not at my side
But there is nothing but silence now
Around the one I loved
Is this our farewell?

Tarja:
Sweet darling you worry too much, my child
See the sadness in your eyes
You are not alone in life
Although you might think that you are

Sharon and tarja:
So sorry your world is tumbling down
I will watch you through these nights
Rest your head and go to sleep
Because my child, this is not our farewell.
This is not our farewell.

Not just the lyrics, the whole song is beautiful. i highly recommend it to you.

The most meaningful song I've ever heard is in spanish, so I don't know if I could post it here or make an accurate translation...

"wake up" by The Arcade Fire. Words cannot describe this incredible song. This band uses hardly any choruses in their songs and they're still exhilerating. whenever i listen to it i'm like "whoooa...."

Go listen to it NOW

Yes! AF rocks, especially with lyrics. I can't get enough of Rebellion (Lies), myself.

This is "Jesús es verbo no sustantivo" by Ricardo Arjona (he's the same man that wrote a song called "Mesías" that allegedly prophetizied the 9/11 incident...), the most meaningful song I've ever heard...

Jesus Verbo No Sustantivo
Ricardo Arjona

Ayer, Jesús afinó mi guitarra y agudizó mis sentidos, me inspiro

Verbo y no sustantivo

It's absolutely beautiful...
