Books I Have Read During the Holiday
During my holiday in the UK, I had the opportunity, plenty of it, to read (and re-read) quite a number of books. Most of them, I actually bought in stores in the UK. However, I had read (or rather, re-read) a number of books, some I bought in the UK, a few I brought with me.
Here's a list.
Books read (for the first time):
The Stars My Destination (aka Tiger! Tiger!) by Alfred Bester (Intriguing sci-fi classic with a true anti-hero at the helm, and a rip-off of The Count of Monte Cristo to boot)
Parasite Eve by Hideaki Sena (very creepy s**t)
Wicked by Jerry Maguire (Not too bad, but I prefer Terry Pratchett)
Michael Palin: Diaries 1969-1979 (Very insightful)
Dead Famous: William Shakespeare and His Famous Acts by Andrew Donkin (Interesting bite-sized history of Shakespeare)
Faction Paradox: The Book of the War edited by Lawrence Miles (Interesting encylopedia/non-linear novel of a Doctor Who spin-off)
The Discworld Graphic Novels (Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic) (Interesting, but over-Americanised artwork)
Guards! Guards! Graphic Novel by Graham Higgins and Stephen Briggs (Very true to Discworld's ethos, and funny!)
Death Note 13: How to Read by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata (Very excellent behind-the-scenes look at the Death Note manga series)
Books that I had re-read:
The first three Dune books by Frank Herbert (Interesting to re-read Dune Messiah and Children of Dune for the first time in a while)
The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien (Re-read for the second, or maybe third time, completely. A little less impressive than I originally thought, but otherwise good. And I intend to do as Christopher Lee does, read it through once a year)
Who On Earth is Tom Baker? (Tom Baker's autobiography. Entertaining, but thin on Doctor Who anecdotes, compared to some of the interviews he has done for DVD)
The Quatermass Experiment by Nigel Kneale (At long last, I obtained a copy of the scriptbook that I have been searching for for the past...5 years? Now I have it! )
Any comments?
