Do you understand poetry? Can you make sense of it? Does it charm, awe, inspire or resonate in you in some way?

It doesn't do anything for me. Is that an Aspie peculiarity, or just me?

I found this interesting and since you brought it up, I have never really been keen to music or rhymes or poetry but I can rhyme fairly well when I try and have made poems before. I don't know if that answers your question but I hope it helps.

I found it much more interesting after studying it in detail.

So it's more intellectually intriguing to you than heart capturing?

I would like to answer that one if its alright, I do find it more intellectual than having to do with my heart. To me it has to make sense, not the rhythm but the lyrics.

Poetry is an interplay of emotions, ideas, linguistic flexibility and formal disciplines and concise originality. I write it, like it and read it extensively. If you don't like it or understand it you're missing something but there are lots of other things in the world for you to enjoy.

I like poetry. I like both the intellectual aspect of it and the aesthetic aspect of it. I probably don't fully understand it all the time, but I certainly appreciate it.

I appreciate it as well, my biggest problem with it is the English language as a whole. So many contradictions to rules and the way things are, I'm learning Japanese and its very simple because they have a realistic and balanced system. I can understand why it is so hard for foreigners to learn English because of the way it is.

I knew of poetry before I started studying it, but once I found out about the technical side of it, I found I could appreciate it's complexities better, and learned how to create some of my own compositions.

I feel that writing from the heart is something, but if it's technically sloppy, people will get put off.

Someone can pour out their heart out through playing a guitar after their first lesson, but if someone who has been playing for 10 years, and knows how to construct complex and interesting riffs, does the same, it'll probably bee more interesting. Also, musicians will be able to appreciate the hard work of the veteran through their own experiences and understanding of music.

So, emotion is important, but execution is equally so

Me, I love the stuff. When you get ideas, word sounds, images, and emotions all falling together exactly right, it's a magic like nothing else. There's only a handful of poets I like though, and I think they're all dead. Most poetry don't do nothing for me.

If you don't see any sense in it, that ain't got nothing to do with being aspie. It just means you're normal. As far as I know, there's nobody in the world right now making a living writing poetry. There might be, but I don't know who they are. That gives you some idea of how many people like poetry.

I'm sure there's hundreds of people in the world that make a living juggling, so obviously there's more people that appreciate juggling than people that appreciate poetry.

All them English teachers that tell their students how important it is to appreciate poetry, then they analyze the "symbolism" like they're decoding a military message intercepted from enemy headquarters and claiming that's "what it means." How many of them read poetry when they're not at work, read it just because they love it?

It wasn't always this way. I'm curious about what it is that's changed.
