I wonder how americans decide to do on this. Any comments? (I guess I could wiki, but I want human responses on this)
Americans stay up all night, Times Square in New York is supposedly a big deal (a lot of people will get on TV to watch the ball drop, signifying the new year) and, for the adult crowd, alcoholic beverages are a popular choice on this evening.
I watch the ball drop - and only the ball drop - because it's cute. I don't want to ring in the new year with pop stars I don't care about so I avoid the rest of the "Ryan Seacrest Presents Ryan Seacreast In Ryan Seacrest's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest, Ryan Seacrest, Ryan Seacrest and Whatever Remains of Dick Clark This Year".
The only time I ever really watched the New Year's Eve stuff was in 1999 because it was a big deal and because that year, Phish performed "Heavy Things" via satellite from their marathon concert in Big Cypress, Florida which is the only time any band I like has ever appeared on a major TV network New Year's Eve celebration. It was also simulcast as apart of the worldwide "2000 Today" program, the only time that Phish ever got worldwide recognition and why "Heavy Things" is one of the band's best known songs.
