Yes, I know most of you think that I won't be that good a writer, because I'm Ten, but I am pretty good at writing stories, and I actually want people to take me seriously with this..

I'm basically planning a Science Fiction book, set in the year 2020-2040, or somewhere inbetween.

The book, is about a group of Ex-Engineers, Scienctists, Police Officers, Army Generals, ect ect, who are called apon to stop an Alien threat from a series of different aliens led by an Ex-Politician, who wants to take over most of the New Solar System(A new series of planets containing Earth, that were formed due to changes in space, and the change caused by new Alien Technology.

I can't think of any decent second names for characters, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is how the book will start(I'm going to post the first chapter(or prologue) in a bit..

Basically, it starts with Oscar, and Lewis(A possible name for him) sneaking into a Cargo Ship, heading out of the outer rim of the New Solar System. The Government, need to get data out towards the large human colonies in charge of protecting the outer rim, due to the fact that messages, or e-mails sent by the Internet, could easily be captured by the aliens, so they had to be sent via hard drive on a Cargo Ship. One of the politicians, managed to bypass the light security system on the Cargo Ship, allowing the aliens to simply steal the hard drive, without the government knowing.

Oscar and Lewis are sent to retrieve it, and are just about on board, when a portal opens, and a huge monster(Can't think of a word for it) carrying aliens, help the one's already hidden on board. They have to fight their way through the hordes of aliens, and capture the hard drive, before the aliens capture it, they float outside the rim and reinforcements arrive, or the Cargo Ship simply gets destroyed.

So er... What do you think?

Sounds like an interesting plot. I would certainly read it. I however, have the same problem of coming up with names for things. My thing is video game design. And I always struggle with that part. As for your request to have people take you seriously... good luck with that. Ive been struggling with that my whole life. People dont usually get taken seriously unless theyre old or well established somehow. Good luck with your book though. Im sorry I dont have much to say that would help. Definately keep us posted on the status of that book. Like I said, I would read it for sure. How long you planning on making it?

It sounds like it might be a good book. As far as "second" names (as in sur names?) may I sugest something along the line of having them be related to their occupation?

I think your writing's excellent. It's absolutely clear what you're saying all the time and your sentence structure flows smoothly without giving the impression that it's contrived or forced.

I'm impressed.

Did you say that wasn't proper? Did you march out on the track?

Thanks.

Well, Er... I'm not sure how long it'll be, one of the draft bits(Was pretty rubbish, but stuck to the main plan) was about the same size as a small chapter, with the font size being about 18, so I'm saying around 90 pages, or even more if I can do it. It's a bit crazy, especially due to the fact that the last book was like 3-4 pages... My writing gets better by the month, and I've been planning this book for three months now, so I can write a book that long.

Thanks alot! :D

Anyways, the idea's are going well, what I'm mainly going to do is have an outline of how the book will go, throw in a few bits as I go along, and so on. I can actually do this, for example, in my class at School, the teacher would be talking about writing a story, in a certain time zone, or place or so on, most of us are asked if we want to plan, and I've already done the planning in my head during the lesson..

I can give some backround bio on the characters, though some of them I'm still working on. Many of them don't have second names.

Oscar- An Engineer from Alaska, who runs the orginization, and is wanted by the government to some extent. He also has ice based powers.

Tony- A good friend of Oscar's, who was part of a rebel force trying to blow up the generators running on the Delta-13 space station when it was overrun, Tony now works in the equipment area of things, working closely with Lewis.

No Name Yet- A scientist, based in the area of Alien Tech, and changes to the atmosphere. She also mainly pilots the base of the group, a small, carrier ship, fitted with D type vessel engines, and a strict security system set up by Lewis.

Peter(Possible name)- An English-Japanese expert in weapons, who is also an expert with electronics and computers, who spends most of his time out on missions, defeating threats. Peter can randomly teleport small distances, and run extremely fast.

I'm planning more characters, but so far, they are the main ones.

I'll post an update of some of my ideas later.

Ok. Update, I'll start writing the book sometime tomorrow, with about some of the stuff here. I'll keep you updated with the paragraphs and so on as I go along..

Here's the Draft Prologue, or at least the first part of it.

Oscar, slowly made his way through the lower deck, slowly and cautiously.
"Wait up!" shouted a voice, from being, Oscar turned, leaning slightly, to grab a pale hand, as he pulled up another figure, looking tired, but prepared, Sword in hand.
"I don't like the look of this" said the figure, as he looked around, at the abandoned, and wrecked corridoors of the ship. There were wires sticking out of walls, pieces of metal coming out of the floor, and at one point, the wall nearly collapsed in.
"Neither do I, at this rate we won't make it to the bottom" laughed Oscar, kicking open one of the many, scratched metal doors, pulling out a fairly long white gun, checking that the blue bars on the side. He then places his hand, on the top of the weapon, somehow reloading it.
They continued, down the ship, until they got to the entrance to the Engine Room.
"Watch where you fire in here Oscar..." said the figure as they turned to the doors, and spotted large hordes of shadowy figures bursting through the walls.
"I will..." Oscar, was once again, prepared, loaded, and ready for battle.

Good good good.

You got excellent instincts for how to stick in exactly the right amount of detail so the reader actually experiences the story, like watching a movie.

Try throwing in some other senses, sounds, touch, smell, to make the experience for the reader even more real.

Not too much, so it's not a distraction from the story, just a little now and then.

Thanks, the real Prologue will be bigger, and much larger than that, As I said, I'll probably start work on it today... I'm going to try and not have to think up second names though, so...
