Poem: The Fruitless Hunt
Wow, I haven't posted anything for a long time, but I just recently took up writing some poetry I would like to share. This one is my second one, and I know that I'm no Shakespeare (I'm a history major), but I think it's not too bad. I'm not content with some of the phrasing, but I tried to keep everything at 12 syllables. The poem is personal for me, influenced by my own experiences, but I'll leave it open to your interpretation. I hope you will like it, and who knows, maybe you will identify with it.
The Fruitless Hunt
What exactly is this beast they call perfection;
Whose painful bite always leads to great infection?
While the hunter remains in a constant pursuit;
Perfection attacks, but his strikes are always mute;
But our brave hunter fails to see this beast at all;
As well as the deep pain which will lead to his fall;
And still, he seeks the trophy of which to be proud;
Hopeful that perfection’s head will bring him a crowd;
In the end, the hunt proves little more than a waste;
For when the beast’s within range, it flees in a haste;
All the while his wounds fester with his life at stake;
And the disease of discontent, his soul will take;
Take with you a lesson from this poor, sad lost soul;
Chasing perfection means digging your own deep hole.
