I think for any genre its the emotionality of it that I get into. Dnb has just been done in a way that's fit me perfectly when it comes to its deeper/darker production. Dubstep I'm the same way, though a really cool thing happens with dubstep as well; you have a genre that will take emotional and sound scape concepts from DNB (wobbles suck of course though - didn't get into dubstep until that was worked out of it), but now its coming back around and impacting dnb as well.

Truthfully, the thing thats even more refreshing about dubstep is that it takes those dnb concepts and then mashes them in with other ideas that work at 40 bpm - ie. IDM, dub/detroit techno type moods, you'll hear some dubstep artists who will almost exclusively go that IDM/techno route.

That's where it gets reuptake into dnb. Of course DNB has been stripping down its beats since 2006 or 2007, you hear this in thing like Clarendon or Rebel Creations by Breakage, ie. DNB has been going back to the darker sounds (return to some 1997/1998 principles) but its not acting, behaviorally, like its closer to 85 - 90 BPM at least on listen, especially now with guys like Abstract Elements (listen to Fourth Dimension, great example), ASC's newer stuff, its happening a lot.

That and of course I have to mention the guys who've grabbed the IDM/techno aspects of dubstep and brought it back to DNB - Instra:mental, of course the've been around for a long time, were very traditional in their dark dnb back in the day, but when they came back I think they were really feeling Appleblim and Geiom's stuff which lead them to pull it into a DNB frame of reference.

Lol, sorry for the thesis and academic study on the topic - probably way more than you wanted - that's just my thought though. I think both of these genres can get obscenely deep and that's what I like, music that you feel like you're falling head over heels into, where it seems like there's a universe between every kick and snare; in that sense the minimalism has been a good thing to an extent.

A little heavier than what I usually post but I do like it this hard when they get this pariticular kind of Se7en/Saw'ishness going on. The drop is insane.

Haha it's all good. I always love hearing and learning about music :D . You definately know what you're talking about and I have mad respect for that. I have noticed that slowing down some DnB with a turntable and having other samples playing, you can create somewhat of a dubstep sound. I went to a DJ show a little while ago and the guys slowed down some of their breakbeats and turned it into dubstep.

Quaint....

http://www.criticalmusic.com/podcast/ep ... 6Sabre.mp3

01/ Mixmaster Doc - Cancelation Dub [Dub]
02/ Sabre & Alix Perez - Javelin [Critical]
03/ Dub Phizix - Handmade [Dub]
04/ Sabre - Marvel [Critical]
05/ Alix Perez - The Observer [Dub]
06/ Hybris - The Cleaner [Critical]
07/ Jose James - Warriors / Rockwell Remix [Brownswood]
08/ Ena - Slip Into Ur Mind [Dub]
09/ Sabre - Follow Polaris [Critical]
10/ Kryptic Minds - Wondering Why [Osiris Music]
11/ Icicle - Xylophobia [Dub]
12/ Sabre - The Gazette [Critical]
13/ Jack Sparrow - Torment [Tectonic]
14/ Sabre - Levelling out pt.2 [Critical]

Don't get me wrong - I do worry about souring my enjoyment of the Sabre EP when it comes out, I'll just take extra special care to avoid it on Youtube. On another note though - dispite the sound quality, I debated downloading this with myself for a while but when I saw Xylophobia that was it, I really want to know where Icicle's got his dubstep available - Anything is another one by him that I need to get my hands on.

Good call. I was amazed there was actually a lot going on in 93' in general - Roni Size & Die - Music Box, LTJ Bukem - Music, Ed Rush's first biggie (Art Attack), Peshay was also a very busy man.

Here's something from 95' that puts a big smile on my face though, there are many others of course but:

This is a 93' tune, absolutely chilling though - think it may even outclass Music Box.

I absolutely love Drum N Bass. No lyrics, just fast, complex rhythms.

List of Drum N Bass/Dubstep artists in my music collection:

Amon Tobin
Aphex Twin
Aquasky
Benga
Burial
DJ Fresh
Ed Rush & Optical
Goldie
A Guy Called Gerald
High Contrast
LTJ Bukem
Pendulum
Photek
Ram Trilogy
Rufige Kru
Source Direct
Skream
Squarepusher
Technical Itch

And that alone takes up about One Tenth on my music collection. I have diverse tastes.
