I'm trying to use the line tool but I'm having trouble controlling it. I can't control the width, the angle and the height of it. The I try controlling the angle of it, it'll wobble all over the place as if I'm holding a compass near and electromagnet or am hiking near deposits of lodestone bearing rock.

I also don't know how to make the line the thickness I want or the height.

See, I'm trying to make lightsaber glows for pictures but if I could just make the line behave, I'll be all set.

What are you using? Photoshop or Illustrator?

Remember that you have to drag with the line tool - not just click the two end points. There is a box on the top toolbar that controls the weight (thickness.) You can also add arrowheads, if you're so inclined.

The Pen tool is more appropiate for that, specially since you want to apply the glow effect to its area.
To make a rectangle area it's just four clicks with the Pen tool,
and to correct (move) them use the White arrow tool.

to define stroke weight when using the Line tool, you have to first define the weight(witdh) in the toolbar at the top and that'll be the width.

after I define the shape, I need the shape to be solidly filled in with a color. The pen tool doesn't appear to be able to do that.

I did manage to get the line shape tool to click and drag and make a free-form line once by unclicking the chain link but I haven't been able to do it since for some reason.

When I try making the line, the center of the line stays where the mouse is and when I move the mouse, it rotates or gets thinner or thicker. I want to click on where I want it to start and drag to the end point, depress the mouse button and there's my line.
