gawd, I hope it doesn't seem pretentious, as I used to live in NYC ! anyway, yeah, I don't subscribe anymore, but I read it. And I like the 'caption a cartoon' contest, best.

Do either of you (or anyone else) read the new yorker cartoon lounge blog?

I don't read the magazine but the cartoon lounge is hysterical, I've read the archives of it end to end.

here's the link: cartoon lounge blog

Harper's is probably my favorite magazine, either that or National Geographic

I love the New Yorker! Funniest cartoons, the one-page Economics briefs always hit the nail on the head, and the weekly fiction section, just like any NY article it takes effort to read, but it is always worth the effort! I even read the Talk of Town sometimes - about ballet and movies and shows. They even ran two columns about my favorite dance group Alvin Ailey and my favorite number "Will I be Ready?" about a man who struggles to get up from the floor. That was back in 2005 and I still remember the article! OMG, the POEMS!! ! Awesomest poems even if most of them don't rhyme. Reading New Yorker is like a breath of fresh air - it always makes you think and transcends you into the shoes of a person in a completely different life. No wonder you read it ASS-P!

P.S. Harper's and National Geographic are throw away rags!

Um, I respectfully disagree? Not really sure how to respond to that... Care to explain?

Harper's - wordy and irrelevant.

National Geographic - pretty pictures, zero depth in the articles, complete misrepresentation of realities overseas. I looked at the 1989 edition of National Geographic, an article about Saddam Hussein. The article was crappy to say the least.

Well the New Yorker discussion is probably not the best place for a debate about this. I disagree, but I see where you're coming from.

I'm just messing with you. Harp's and N Geographic are great! But, still, ALL HAIL THE NEW YORKER! :)

I like the New Yorker. I get the cartoons.
I also discovered I have AS by reading an article in the New Yorker. ("Parallel Play", I think by Tim Page, late 2007).

Yes, I have that copy around here somewhere, too! I discovered I am AS from a segment on Morning Edition on National Public Radio!

I have read the New Yorker since about 1940. It's had better days. I haven't read it lately.
