For those of you who feel like a legal alien, here's my rewritten lyrics to a somewhat relevant song to us Aspergians:

Original Lyrics- Englishman in New York (by Sting)

I dont make small talk, I speak pendantic'ly
I tend to cast my gaze aside
And you can hear no modulation when I talk
So they laugh and they call me dork

See me walking, posture slight askew,
a little clumsy in my stride
I hear it sometimes when they mock
when they laugh and they call me dork

I'm Aspergian I'm proud to be Aspergian
though they laugh and they call me dork
Im Aspergian I'm proud to be Aspergian
though they laugh and they call me dork

If, courage maketh man as someone said
Then I'm the hero of the day
It takes me strength to suffer ignorance and smile
to be myself no matter what they say

I'm Aspergian I'm proud to be Aspergian
though they laugh and they call me dork
Im Aspergian I'm proud to be Aspergian
though they laugh and they call me dork

Tried to learn propriety, though it brings me anxiety
When I try to integrate I'm shunned
Acceptance of variety, is rare in this society
Conformity's a game that can't be won

Takes more than eye contact to understand
Takes more than a smile to call it fun
Aware of impulses, avoid them when I can
Yet friendship tends to end before it's begun

If, courage maketh man as someone said
Then I'm the hero of the day
It takes me strength to suffer ignorance and smile
to be myself no matter what they say

I'm Aspergian I'm proud to be Aspergian
though they laugh and they call me dork
Im Aspergian I'm proud to be Aspergian
though they laugh and they call me dork

Outstanding. Good job on keeping rhyme and meter too! Well done.

Thanks. There were a few parts where I had to tweak a pickup beat or two, but I tried to stray from that. I wanted it to flow with the song.

The first time I heard the original, I thought to myself that this was an accurate metaphor for our situation. We're like foreigners from a distant land, much like an Englishman in New York.

Glad you liked it. It's a thing I've had kicking around in my head a line or two at a time and only just yesterday got a chance to write it down and polish it.

I tried to sing it and had to cry during "conformity's a game that can't be won".

I request permission to sig that in English and Rejistanian.

Sorry. Didn't mean to make anyone cry. I guess though it's not a bad thing that it had an impact on someone like that.

Now, how about a game of chess? *hopes you get the reference*

It's funny you should go that direction -- it's the premise behind my username. The Vipera Aspis (The Asp(ie)) is common to Southeastern Europe (Italy et al). So I'm an Asp and out of my element :) .

Wow, now I'm distracted by that "The Asp(ie)" part I just wrote. The text could be ie as in i.e. or ie as in continuing the word asp to make the word 'aspie'. Holy double-entendres Batman! I'd like to take credit for doing that intentionally, but I didn't.

I get soooo hung up on words.
