Recommend me a book about Asperger's and Music
Hi all,
For some time now I've been looking for books on the topic Asperger's, High Functioning Autism, Foreign Languages and Music. Could you recommend me any titles? I've found some interesting publications, but none of them offer a deep analysis of the music and foreign languages fields. (With Foreign Languages I mean the active process of learning them).
I'b be really grateful if you could suggest me some interesting readings.
It'd be also very helpful if Aspie Musicias would share their views onmusic, how do they "live" it.
Thak you ![]()
I haven't read this yet & I don't know if it references autism/AS - http://www.musicophilia.com/ - but Oliver Sacks has also written about the autistic spectrum.
Personally, music has consumed me for much of my life. From a listening standpoint, I've latched on to specific artists, listening to everything I can find by them to the exclusion of everything else. I would not only listen to their music, but I would also seek out any biographical information, to try to capture their personalities & find out what made them such incredible musicians.
As a musician, I would practice many hours each day & be thinking about practicing the rest of the time. The mechanism of music was always important to me - how does it happen? It was never easy - I always had to work hard - I was never a prodigy. But music was my life for about 25 years. I still listen to music all the time.

Thank you Zeichner,
I read Musicophilia about a year ago. It really is a most interesting reading -as any other Oliver Sacks books- but unfortunately it doesnt's focus on HFA or Asperger's. But I enjoyed greatly!
I know what you mean about searching for any information about musicians that makes you get a better picture. We're on the same boat! None of my NT friends understand that obsession. And now that I've started myself to take lessons it's even more addictive. ![]()
