If you have ever fasted for some reason, you know what it feels like to be starving.

Well, even though you will never be able to tell by interacting with me, my loneliness feels like that. Like starving. Does anyone else feel lonely like starving?

A lot like fasting, I've noticed that it hurts most for the first few days - afterward you may or may not feel it anymore. Luckily I have friends IRL who I can talk to, parents who care, and starving romantically in my case is a bit more like going diabetic and always having to pass on desert rather than missing the other 3 meals. I think something else you wanna do, if you'd like to remove the pain, is see the quality of what other people have 360 and see if you really want it - most of what we see when we think of relationships off the top is the highlights rather than the basic mundane aspects, the friction during those times, the fights, and when I look at the quality of most people's relationships or realize I'd really have to drop my expectations about a partner's personal ethics on it I realize that although I'd love to find the right person I'm still far better off with no one than I would be with the wrong person. Being that these days relationships in general are far more performance-based and fairweather than they've been in a long time I really don't feel like I'm missing out on as much.

Indeed. I never made this connection before, but you are right. They certainly feel the same way, at least....

Yes, it's like your soul is hungry. :(

But after going long enough without food, you aren't hungry anymore. Or maybe that's just me, I've only gone a little over a day without eating.

I'm not sure I'd go along, although I don't want to entirely reject the premise either. The first admonition in the Bible is, "It is not good for man to be alone." I'll take that as an authoritative statement. And I get lonely too. On the other hand, having lived long enough to survive various eras, I know that I personally suffer greater discomfort from feeling crowded than feeling alone. And it's pretty easy for me to feel crowded. So there's this continuum with crowds at one extreme and isolation at the other, and somewhere near (but not at) the isolated side is my sweet spot. But it's not possible to optimize the world so I'm exactly at that sweet spot; as a practical matter, I'll always be on one side or the other. Given the choice, I'd rather fall on the too-alone side and aspire to be slightly less alone, rather on the too-crowded side, struggling for greater isolation.

I believe the foregoing, and I report it with sincerity. Then again, I'm acutely aware of the possibility that these are the ramblings of a kook who struggles to justify and rationalize his kookiness. (This is a fancy way of admitting to a possible "sour grapes" mentality.)

Yeah, I can relate to that. Whats even worse, is when you go days or weeks w/o even physical contact. When someone hugs its so unexpected that your skin tingles all over (and not necessarily in the good way).

Now that I think of it in that light, this feeling is rather comparable to hunger.

Only if food rejected me, like if an apple punched and left me to be eaten by a fat-ass.

I do often find myself very hungry, and I much prefer that feeling to loneliness.

A very apt description.
