I always thought that an Aspie could not be gay. They are the extreme way that a man thinks, the complete polar opposite of gay, the feminine way a man thinks.
The problem with that line of reasoning is that it assumes all gay men are feminine. While the camp stereotype does represent a significant subset of the population, it tends to get blown out of proportion because of its entertainment, rhetorical/political and comfort value to straight men. Jokes about "normal looking" gay guys just wouldn't be as funny. If you're trying to make a political argument against gay marriage or gay adoption, then you're not going to use a "normal looking" gay man as your bad example when you can pick a shockingly outrageous queen to illustrate your point. Finally, guys who are insecure about their own heterosexuality feel better thinking that there is a visibly obvious distinction between themselves and queers. (I don't mean that as a personal attack, by the way -- I'm just saying that your assumption is wrong.)
Most guys have no idea I'm queer unless I tell them.
