After having broken up with my boyfriend back in February, I recently started seeing someone new. I met him at the AANE (Asperger's Association of New England) Pizza and Game Night. He and I went to the same college, it turns out, and both graduated back in 2011. He has a Bachelor's of Arts in Geography, and graduated Magna Cum Laude, and I have a Bachelor's of Arts in Sociology, and graduated Cum Laude. He's really smart, and really cute! :D He's so nice, too. We've gone out a few times, both one-on-one and with people from pizza night. We go bowling with them on Saturdays. We have a lot in common. We both like to read and write, we like the same music, and we're both higher functioning. He's younger than me (he's 27 and I'm 36) and my sister (she's 29), but I'm trying not to make a big deal out of it. He's mature for his age. Age is just a number, right? I'd like to see where it goes.

Nine years, not that big of a deal. Best of luck to you.

sounds like you're off to a good start. there was nine years difference in my parents' ages and they were married for over 50 years when my dad died.

Since you're both adults, if both of you are comfortable with the age difference, there shouldn't be a problem

I clicked this thread just to find out how much time had passed since your breakup until you're dating again. I was curious only because a guy I'm interested in had a recent breakup and I'd like to get to know him when he's ready to date again. I know the length of time is going to be different for everyone, but I figure the more stories I read/hear about how long it took others to get over their exes and start dating again will help give me a better idea of what sort of time frame might be appropriate to wait until contacting him again.

Anyways, congrats. As for age difference & him being younger.. meh, I don't see anything wrong with it whatsoever. In fact, I'm only attracted to guys younger than me.. so it would be weird for me to consider dating someone that was my age or older. Nonetheless, I don't think that's an extreme age difference or anything like that and no one's likely to care or pass any sort of judgement. If anything they might give you a high five for attracting a younger mate. :P

Well, Goldfish21, to answer your question, my boyfriend and I had been together 5 years, but it wasn't going anywhere. He wasn't ready to commit to the relationship. We broke up in February around Valentine's Day. I started seeing the new guy last month, after my parents and I had come back from vacation. He'd been going to pizza night since last year, but we didn't start talking until recently. As for our age difference, I'm trying to ignore it. Besides, I've been told I look young, anyway, so that works. He doesn't think I'm old. He's a nice young man and I enjoy being with him.

Thanks for the more detailed answer on your own personal timeline. It's interesting to learn these things from others. I kind of have to learn them from others because I've never been in a relationship to have a breakup from (aside from seeing a girl for a few weeks when I was ~18, which wasn't a serious relationship at all lol.) so I don't even know what sort of time frame it might take me to get over a breakup and move on to meeting someone else. But I do realize that the time period is different for everyone, and may be different for each break up someone has depending on how long the relationship was or how serious etc. I get that, but it's still nice to learn from others' experiences and stories, so thanks for sharing.

Sounds like the age thing isn't even really much of a thing for you after all, which is good. Just go with it and be happy. 8)

You have seven little men who are several hundred years old and yet you're concerned about a 9 years difference with a human.
