Why do people still marry rather young now?

That makes sense, and also provides a good example of how social pressures can make for an artificially low divorce rate.

Whereas reducing the rate of justifiable causes for divorce would also reduce the divorce rates, but without anyone feeling trapped in a bad marriage.

I'd hope that view at least provides some pressure towards trying to make those relationships as healthy as possible.

The bad thing is that most reverends in the churches of Christ who do marital and pre-marital counseling do not have the needed psychology college and grad school and licensing for it.

That could be a problem; I wonder how many of them would seek non-CoC affiliated counselling if need be.

I dont know....My dad told me to ask the pastor about marriage and he does premarital counseling but as as far I know he did not have the background for it......I refuse to use someone for pre-marital counseling if they have not gone to grad school and got licensed when I am engaged whenever that may be.....I hope that any future churches of Christ dont require me to conduct pre-marital counseling and counseling as a condition of employment but there is a pretty good or very high chance they will.

Purity culture is another factor that contributes to the sunk-cost fallacy. If a culture (or segment of a culture) is overly fixated on the idea of brides being expected to be virgins, it makes it harder for someone to think starting over is even an option because now they're "damaged goods", their inherent worth is diminished (from that perspective).

That is VERY TRUE and something I didn't even consider!! ! @funeralxempire

I'm no virgin even though I wanted to wait until marriage David had other plans...
