Is a nice relationship better than a rollercoaster one?

In the Taylor Swift song Thats The Way I Loved You, she talks about two types of relationship. One is where the boy is liked by family and friends, he is sensible and a real gentleman and the relationship is perfectly fine, meaning it not good great amazing but fine. The other relationship that she longs to have back is where the boy and her did exciting things and things that were crazy just because their love for each other made them do it, they also argued and shouted at each other but she enjoyed the rollercoaster rush feeling that they gave each other.

Although I have never been in a relationship before I think Im now in the early stages of the first one described in that song. Im having a really good time. But Im worried that I shouldnt settle for a having a good time when I could have an amazing time with someone else.

Which do you think it is best to have in the long term a relationship that gives you a nice feeling or one where your feelings change from great to bad and back again like rollercoaster?

So very much better to have a nice one (that has capacity for moments of euphoria) than to have an overly-dramatic one. It's exhausting being in a relationship that's all about drama, and ultimately it speaks to the immaturity of the drama-causers. Just say "no".

complicated subject. i bring the roller coaster with me into every relationship, so i think it kind of depends on the people involved. OP, you might have one like that but it depends a lot on the personalities of you and your partner. if you are not already like that, you might not ever have a roller coaster dynamic unless your partner brings it. it is an extremely stressful kind of relationship, but never boring.

Life and relationships will always be a rollercoaster. Some might be like a kiddie ride but most will have more extreme up's and down's. There will be times of anticipation like sitting in the station or climbing the first hill. There will always be the unexpected dips or turns, and some dark tunnels, There will be times of feeling weightless and times that your thrown around abruptly and vigorously when you don't expect it.

Some people don't like the big scary rides and want a smooth easy one. They will be the the one screaming "get me off this thing" Others will want to hop right back on the same ride and never tire of it yelling "lets get back in line"

I guess its a matter of "are you both yelling the same thing ?" or "does one like the big ride and the other likes the kiddie ride"
Thats when the arguing starts if you want one and the other doesn't.

I've been in a "rollercoaster" relationship before and I'd never knowingly enter another. Any relationship I have wouldn't be boring because of that fact, though.

Taylor Swift is young, don't let a song make up your mind for you. Like the others said, life is going to throw you around whether your ready or not. I was with someone that people always said was fun. They were not practical and I was doing most of the work being the responsible one. It didn't work with me but everyone is different you just have to decide where the balance of responsibility ends up and who's willing to clean up the mess.

Nice one works for me, rollercoaster relationships is like competing to be the best couple. Simply put, why overcomplicate matters when you can have a nice one with the same fun factor with a better understanding of each other?

My 1st relationship was the roller-coaster one & we had lots of fights & other problems & things fell apart because we were unstable together. My 2nd relationship was a lot more simply nice & things went a lot smother & seemed a lot more stable. I would DENTALLY chose the nice one. The roller-coaster really stressed me out & caused me to have a lot of emotional problems that eventually led to a mental breakdown. BTW I NEVER want to ride a real-life roller-coaster because of motion-sickness & anxiety issues; that's how I feel about relationship roller-coasters too; caused me to have lots of panic attacks & feel sick. My mental health is much better without a roller-coaster

People sometimes get so enthralled by the excitement that they feel it necessary to bring that in all parts of their life. I think I'll find a girl soon that doesn't thrive off those emotions unlike the first girl who I dated.
I would like to think a relationship with little to no drama would be as equally satisfying to people.

I'd prefer a low-drama relationship, thank you very much. Some people may call this boring, I prefer the word "stable"...

a relationship can be a roller coaster yet also really satisfying and enjoyable. it's very dynamic with the highs and lows. it's definitely more stressful but there is a lot of life packed into it. not everyone can handle it, but for me the peaks make the valleys worthwhile.

Yea I think that's a much better term than "nice." Rollercoaster type emotions are generally a bad thing in my experience although I'm not really the type of person that could keep up with most extreme changing emotions regardless. :?

I don't like dramatics, but when I think of a 'nice' relationship I think 'no passion'. No thank you.

The way I see it, relationships are like stars. The hotter they burn, the shorter they last...

20 years was a long time (not forever, but still quite long), and it burned very hot. depends on the people involved, i guess.
