Well if it's any consolation, I've been fed all kinds of labels for being what I am. You're going to get them no matter what, the question is whether or not you believe it and how much you are willing to challenge those notions. We can't always see what everyone else sees.

It is because of those accusations, as well as a similar incident years before, that I became extremely concerned about what others think.

I can definitely identify with this sentiment and it's easier said than done. I still have to remind myself that I can't please everyone and there are those who will makes asses of themselves regardless of where you stand politically, philosophically, religiously, etc. Thats just the basic facts of life and I think maybe, if I'm not generalizing but I do see more of it on aspie forums, we're much more sensitive to it. Navigating the human world isn't easy I think especially for us who are on the spectrum. Also try not to see your glass as half empty, there have been a lot of good stuff at least on this board people have seen in you. Yes no one's going to agree with eachother especially in politics. Every time I go to see some of my extended family, I try and keep my mouth shut about where I lean politically because they always have something negative to say or attribute. I just sit and listen while keeping my mouth shut until I'm around people who are mature enough to listen and debate on a more practical level so you're not alone.

Yes - it's called the "age of consent" in civilized society, and it takes into account a little thing we big kids call maturity. Protecting children is idiocy? "Others are mature enough [for sex] well before they're 16?" Spoken like a pedophile. Is NAMBLA giving out cards to carry these days, or do you just know each other by sight?

No they don't, but they do increase their chances of attracting the wrong kind of men. While I don't agree with the dress code for women in Islamic countries, I would definitely say their reasoning behind it (protecting women from sexual predators) is valid.

Actually, dress codes in Islamic countries are not intended to protect women from sexual predators. They're really intended to subjugate women. But that really shouldn't bother you - now that you're out with the whole pedophilia thing. How very good for you.

I never said women are inferior. I merely said that intellectual women tend to be more shallow than intellectual men. At the same time I acknowledge the fact that women tend to be better at multitasking, tend to have better social skills, tend to be better at nurturing and also excel in certain academic fields. You're putting words in my mouth by implying that I see women as inferior, which I don't.

MissConstrue wrote:

It's not because of her gender that I would be worried. It's because of the predators around that I would be worried. A woman going through a dark alley by herself is generally considered more vulnerable and therefore a more likely prey for thieves (and that's even ignoring the rapists). Also, a woman dressing like a slut will atrract abusive men because decent men tend to stay away from such women. It's nothing but common sense and actually respect for women that makes me voice the opinions you're considering as evidence for misogeny.

I guess if I would irrationally draw the wrong conclusions like you did, you're right.

MissConstrue wrote:
Also another note, when you say bitchy, does the same apply to guys who rant and rave? Just something to think about when you bring up these generalizations regarding women.

I never called all women bitchy. I said most women are bitchy but I would also say that the majority of men are either idiots or a**holes. In general, I just tend to like women less than men, but when looking at the the average person I dislike them both equally.

I assume that "to catch a predator" is some show about adult men who 'groom' minors into having sex with them. If this is false you can disregard the rest of this post.

"To Catch a Predator" was a controversial special of NBC Dateline that run several episodes where adult males who were engaged in conversations that turned sexual (it is unclear to what degree they were provoked - it's part of the controversy around the series) with a decoy posing as a minor online who at one point invites them to come to their place to have intercourse with them. In one of the episodes a total of 51 men showed up during the three days the events were stage, varying from common but usually quite pathetic and stupid men wanting to live out a fantasy or hoping to finally find someone they can have sex with (one even had a physical handicap) to people with a history as a sex offender. They were then filmed with a hidden camera as they stumbled upon a Dateline reporter instead of the minor and from the third episode onwards they were then arrested and put in jail. The series was a cooperation of NBC crew, a vigilante group and local police.

Don't think for a second that sexual relations with an adult man and a minor is not riddled with power play, coercion and dominance. Even in relationships where there victim is not a minor can this be a very serious form of abuse. It is violence, physical or no.

I have no doubt that in some cases this is riddled with power play, coercion and dominance but when I look at the kind of men who responded to the Dateline sting it seemed mostly just pathetic men (spineless, ugly and/or stupid) who saw this teen as a way they can finally have sex or to live out a fantasy. Also, note that modern Japanese culture is quite obsessed with teen sexuality and you'll find many disturbing films and series (both anime and live action) where upskirt shorts and bouncing breasts get a very unhealthy attention.

are you joking? The majority of the abuse i've had has been at the hands of intelligent men.

I'm not saying no intelligent men are abusive. In fact, my last girlfriend's father was an alcoholic a**hole who hit his children and he was far from an idiot. I'm just saying I see far less abusive men among intellectuals than among those with a very low level of education.

hale_bopp wrote:

It's not an issue of whether people talk with me or not. It's the topics they like to talk about.

As I said, some still aren't mature enough when they reach their 20s and others are mature before they're 16. People mature at different paces and while I do agree that teenagers and especially children should be protected from child molestors, a legal age of 16 among consentual teenagers seems quite absurd when you consider the fact that any 15-year-olds have already had sex these days. For someone who appears so liberal, you are incredibly conservative when it comes to this particular topic. Maybe some unresolved issues there?

And no, I'm not into underage women. I did date a 15-year-old once but I was only 19 at the time and she was about to get 16. The idea that those few months between the moment I met her and the day she turned 16 could make a difference in maturity is just plain stupid.

HopeGrows wrote:

So now I'm a pedophile because I don't see why a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old shouldn't have sex together if they both feel ready for it?!? It's not like I'm suggesting it's a normal thing for a 30-year-old or 40-year-old to have sex with a teenager if that's what you're implying... but considering your tendency to misinterpret everything I say, that shouldn't surprise me.

In that case I encourage you to talk with some religious muslem women and ask THEM why they're wearing a headscarf. In Europe (where we have loads of muslem women wearing conservative dress and headscarf out of their own free will) this is common knowledge and in fact muslem women strongly protest when schools or other organisations try to ban the headscarf.

You call me a hater but now you not only falsely accuse my of mysogeny but even pedophilia. Such irony !

I too will take my leave now as I see this discussion leads us nowhere besides revealing who you are, and only fuels my distrust for humanity.

As a final note I'll say you seem very naive and misguided in your believes. Do you think Islamic countries have any less rape than we do? I dare you to do research on the subject.
A teen or minor may seem mature to you, but still lack it in many areas, especially sexuality and power relationships to adults. There is a reason we have statutory rape, and in my opinion that limit is set too low. Seeming mature, does not mean you have the confidence or worldly knowledge to stop these things on one's own. If you cannot say no, then you are not able to consent.

In a bid to save my view of the men on this forum please tell me you do not agree with this guy...

What else am I but a once very idealistic young man who's become disappointed with the hypocricy, idiocy and hedonism that has become the norm rather than the exception in modern society?

There are many factors that play along, but it would definitely be interesting to compare those figures. It would also be interested to see any statistics on the clothing women wore when they were raped. Both studies combined should allow us to draw any conclusion if the Islamic preference for conservative dress codes (note that we used to have similar dress codes for women in Europe) is reasonable or not.

By no means do I support teenagers having sex with a 30- or 40-year-old, but the whole idea that a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old can't have sex when they both feel ready unless they wait a year or so is just plain idiotic in my opinion.

In a bid to not even lose more fate in the character and attitude of women in general, please tell me there's at least one woman who actually read what I'm saying rather than distorting it and making one false assumption after the other.

I am from a country where the age of consent is 16, and I think it is ridiculous how it is 18 in some places... so if two 16 year olds in that place hooked up they would both end up in jail. I wouldnt want to see the age lowered to below 16 though. I think that would open the doors to some vulnerable teens being taken advantage of.

This thread is a bizarre departure from the original topic anyway  and it has some great facepalm pictures in it.

How on earth did you come up with that topic, I wonder, though....

there is so much fail in this thread brought by you and tim it had to be
age of consent isnt about about charging minors
its to prevent dick weeds going around and hurting kids
sure a few might be in some off chance mature enough but most aren't
its not your right to give people the choice to take advantage of them, they're just kids for god sakes!
someone who is 14 shouldn't be having sex, and if they do, it shouldn't be with some 20 year old!
even if they are mature enough, there is somethings they should just wait for
it wont kill them to wait a few years
