After Cafe made me rechecking the thread, and after thinking about all the possibilities again, the most logical one is: The real reason was because I was almost shorter than the women in heels there, and therefore they were embarrassed to appear odd with me as dancing partner, and afraid from any possible gossip. Married women didn't care because they know that their friends know they have someone else.

I have to go to my sister's wedding in the summer and I suspect my parents will treat it as an opportunity to get me to meet or see some single girls, though actually I can't think of any they or my sister know, so perhaps it won't be so bad. In any case I am to get as drunk as possible as suggested before and as some kind of rebellion against my dad's excessive and religious reverence for the social custom.
