the thread itself is quite inflammatory, yes. but it looks like people responded to the posts that had some rudeness (and one person was warned) and it doesn't have to descend further into flames.

i am seeing a gender divide where there doesn't need to be one at all. i'd encourage people to try to explain their perspectives as calmly as possible without attacking anyone else, and to try to understand that everyone posting in this thread seems to have been frustrated by online dating, except that they may have been burnt by different aspects of it.

this seems like a good opportunity to talk - respectfully - about these issues.

It does seem like the guys on WP are often negitive towards women in most threads havent seen that from the girls though.

If anything ive seen it be often perfectly equal ammount of negativity at both genders

women have been warned for being disrespectful to men on WrongPlanet. honestly it isn't as common for women to push the sexism to the point it breaks the rules (women tend to follow the rules more often overall. i'd say more than 90% of the rulebreakers are male). but it DOES happen and it is dealt with accordingly.

i think that part of the issue on the site is that some men and women see each other as fundamentally different. kind of like they perceive the opposite sex as a foreign nation on the opposite bank of a river, and they have to cross the shark-infested waters on a rickety bridge to even attempt communication.

i believe that the two genders are not necessarily so different except in terms of how they have been socialised to behave, so promoting open and honest and respectful communication can help them to see that they are actually more similar than different. threads like this one create a false dichotomy because the original premise is a way of "showing up" the opposite sex. so the members of the same gender react with exaggerated support fueled by bitterness and the members of the opposite gender react with exaggerated disagreement fueled by anger. if the OP was female we'd see an identical situation, but reversed.

i don't think that a seasoned member should be surprised at the outcome of the thread, but the piss can easily be taken out of the "gender divide" by actually listening to each other.

I find myself getting along better with the girls, on WP more then the guys, at times and your right the grils. follow the rules, more often then the guys, not saying some of them dont break the rules though but I see women no diffrent then men as I have stated plenty of times on WP.

As someone relatively new to the forum and indeed AS, it does seem a bit bitter and frankly disheartening here at times.

Nobody seems to want to change their beliefs, and it feels like my views are just swished aside as having little importance because I've already been categorised, and the fact that I disagree in the first place.

What I've noticed and this certainly does not apply to all females, but I'd change they follow the rules to they follow the social rules more often. I mean that is one reason I've never been able to relate to other females, I mean I get along alright with females who don't quite conform to all that like my sister then of course I get along with most lesbians I've known maybe because I get a sense of we can just chill and watch funny movies or whatever without all the typical girl drama for instance.

Anyways I am not judging anyone..but that is what I seem to have observed in my life, but no gender is better than the other.

I can see that women have a better take on social rules then most men do. Both genders are great and all just wish they could all get along and just be chill at times on WP.

Well, like in real life, most criminals are males.

I blame the testosterone.

erm, I don't agree. Same with as they no such thing as a female serial killer mistake, they is females who beat they husbands that should probably be locked up for domestic violence. That was a fun group I was in, once with not experiencing it myself.

They is a higher ratio male to female. So to assume that they is less is a error in logic. They might be less females here, but that does not mean they is less.

What I dislike about this whole thread is that the guys make it out that the women have the advantage and are rude to guys "because they can", which is such BS.

And Faceofboo, if you spoke to any women IRL like you do on here, I'm sure you'll be avoided like the clappers. Either that, or you'll attract a doormat.

One of the women i mentioned is someone i know IRL, she didn't avoid me like the clapper, she's now being more initiative, online and RL alike. And she's far from a doormat.

I didn't reject you, i just said that I wouldn't date you.

Why upset? I am not a right match for you anyways.

Isn't rejection the same thing?

It was the way you worded it. It was not a gentle way of rejecting someone.

i don't understand your point. there are about equal numbers of males and females on the site. the majority of the rulebreakers are male. i didn't say that NO women break any rules, but most of the times when someone is breaking the rules that person is a male.
